Recent docs keep coming back (Word, Excel icons on taskbar items)

Apparently a registry tweak is needed to have Windows 10 remove unwanted list of docs (when right-clicking on Word/Excel icons on taskbar).

Just haven't found the tweak yet and afaik, the guy at Microsoft forums who posted such as response is gone to timbuktoo.

    Doesn't the normal method work?

    Start,
    Settings,
    Personalisation,
    Start,
Show recently opened items in JUmp lists in Start or the taskbar and in File explorer Quick access,
    turn this entry off.

Okay, but how to pin some is another question...

Drag the Word/Excel/PowerPoint file onto the Taskbar and they'll be added to the Jump list for Word/Excel/PowerPoint.

    @Try3 - interesting!
It works but a bit more complicated than before.

    Thanks!

p.s. was looking for "mark as solved"... saw it just before posting, it's there somewhere!
    Found it!

"It works but a bit more complicated than before."

I don't understand that comment. I just dragged a Word file from a File explorer window onto the taskbar and released it.

What i meant is, if i work on a new file or open an old one via Windows search for example, i have to go and dig out the file in a folder and then drag it over to pin it.

If it would appear on recently opened then it could be pinned right away.

    Ok, understood.
Just a thought - What you could do is, when you save a file that you know you will want to pin, use SaveAs instead of Save then right-click on the folder you will use & select Open in new window. That will stay open after you have finished doing the save and can be a source window for dragging from.
