    Win10 Excel 365 - no favorites? Shortcuts?

In Excel 2010 (and Win7 File Explorer) we were able to have Favorites(shortcuts) which we could rename. Now , in Win10 with Office 365 we have Quick Access files which are merely pinned links to directories. The issue becomes when your file hierarchy is regularly filed by Year. I now have three 2019's in my quick access rather than the actual subject of those directories.

Does anyone have a solution to creating shortcuts to directories like that without filling my desktop with icons?

Thank you. (be gentle..this is my first post)

Hi Christie and welcome to Tenforums

This is not a simple question, I'll try to put up an answer anyway. Sorry, if this is not what you meant.

First: some things changed in Win 10. You could try to stick to older look and feel - there are some third party solutions, but they could break with any version upgrade of Windows 10.

Or you can adapt. I'll show you how I work, and others have their ways..

Frequent folders and files: I have my main programs and tools pinned to Taskbar. Right click on it, it shows Quick Access area. Same as in File Explorer.

I have my main folders pined (at top - it is automatic), and most frequent below. I always pin my current work folder and unpin after some time I don't work with it anymore.

Same with Excel, Word files - they are pinned and accessed via right click

Thank you for your response. My issue is the loss of the ability to alter the names. On Favorites I could bring the directory name in, and then rename it.

For example, my 2019 Financial Statements are all under \Financial Statements\2019\......
I would like to be able to access that 2019 directory easily. By pinning this either to my start bar or to my Quick Access it will read 2019. Other similar files have the same scenario and end up with my Quick Access pinned link as 2019. In order to differentiate them I need to actually click on them. Still faster than manually finding the directory but I was just hoping there was some trick I didn't know. (I was converted to Win10 on Monday!)

You could make your shortcuts, put them in a folder and make Toolbar from it. There should be a thread or two here. Will try to find them later, very short on time right now.

Short version... make a folder (on desktop is easy to manage), put shortcuts in there, make a new toolbar - right click on Taskbar, on top - toolbars - select new and select your new folder.

And if you hover with mouse over folder, it'll show you the path, so all 2019 folders will reveal other info.. (not real solution, but will help)
