Education version of Office 365 concern

I just start to realize that I can get the Office 365 Education version with my alumni email, I've missed this great free offer for years!

However, I have a concern, that is, will the document I create with Office 365 Education contain any of the personal information like my real full name or where I was graduated hidden in any parts of the documents / excel files??

Because I am creating documents for use that is NOT intended to reveal any of my personal details...

You don't really purchase Office 365, more of a lease. It allows you six copies of the software and it stays current. This means it is the equivalent of Office 2019. It also comes with Outlook which is an attraction for some. It is a good price is you have multiple machines and want to stay current.

Think there may be an option for one but it is priced high as far as I'm concerned unless you have to have Outlook mail client.

Office 365 comes with more products, some you may not use.


Office 2016 has been updated to Office 2019. So it is older software and will be support for ten years from release. It is a one time purchase. You can do the price comparison.


You also get a lot of cloud storage with Office 365 which can be a selling point for some.


Not trying to push you away from Office but LibreOffice creates and can use Office documents. Some advance items in Office maybe missing but it is free. You can save as docx or xlsx and Powerpoint. (Powerpoint doesn't convert as well as other products.)

No, Microsoft does not care about your school or personal information. In this day and age, digitally embedding certain information to id a file, such as program, OS and origination date would be digitally embedded.

No, none of your personal info is embedded into a file, unless you add to properties, while creating it.

Has zero to do with the school, but you do need a active .edu email. The school could care less about how you use software that they offer licenses through Microsoft’s .edu line availability, as long as it is not for illicit means.

Have you got an alumni association. They should be able to help. Maybe email or call them.

I might also go to the office.com page and try signing in there.
