Microsoft Word Boot Time 3 to 5 Minutes. How to Fix?

I have Office from 2007 installed. Excel boots up in less than 10 seconds. Word takes from 3 to 5 minutes. What could be the problem?

I cannot reload the application as it came on this older ThinkPad that my son gave me. As far as I know the Office app was bought and paid for originally.

Hi jborchel. Welcome to the TenForums @jborchel

Are you opening Word by clciking on a file or by starting Word the program?

Have you tried open Word in Safe Mode.

    In the run box type

    word.exe /safe

    from this document?

Command-line switches for Microsoft Office products - Office Support

Have you tried a repair of Office?

As you don't seem to have original software I would Image machine before trying to much. Want a way to get back to where you are.

    One option

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

What ever imagine tool you use create and test boot disks associated with product.

The app is an original copy as far as I know. It was one of several office laptops that were replaced by newer models. I doubt that the versions were anything but fully paid for.

I usually run the app from the task bar. I will try booting it with the safe command and see what happens.

The computer is in Sleep mode currently so I will try bringing it up from there to see if it makes any difference. The last time I brought it up it was after booting from Shutdown. As I remember, there was a message "Configuring Word" or something like that while it went through the process.
