Office 365 question

I own and have installed an activated version of Office 365. I can use any one of my apps without being signed in to Office—which is how I prefer to work. The product, as you would assume, still shows a proper license and is activated.

Suddenly, Outlook will only work if I sign in to Office. It works fine if I create a new profile. It stays off line and works to send and receive mail. As soon as I restart outlook I get the modern sign-in screen which, being forced to use it to make Outlook work, also signs in my entire suite.

Earlier this week everything worked while being signed out. So what has changed in Office?

Yeah, this one is very irritating since it's an all or nothing issue. Something happened this week when they upgraded it. It was working one day, and the next, sign in nightmares. I've made registry changes, credential removals, reinstalling, and it still behaves the same way. I've had to revert to using Mail now so my other apps don't sign in.

Oh well, still hoping for someone to have that 'Eureka, I found the fix' moment and share it here.

Thanks, Lugh. Have already tried it, but ran it again from your link. I get an error saying "this solution isn't supported for your environment" whatever the heck that means.

Within Windows itself (not Office 365), what is Settings >> Accounts >>Sync your Settings showing?

I now have Sync turned entirely off, and this enables me to work in Outlook, Excel and Word not signed in (and not being nagged to sign-in). Had to make this change in recent days - was previously unaware of Sync your Settings - but some Microsoft upgrade must have changed things recently. See how you go with Sync off.

In any case as far as Ourlook is concerned - if you use IMAP there's never any need to sync stuff -- the mail is always on the mail server until you either move it to local PC or delete it --tablets / phones etc will always get the same e-mail from the server provided they use IMAP.

Totally agree re IMAP and no need to sync within Outlook.
but I'm describing a different sort of sync that Windows is trying to do at Settings >> Accounts >>Sync your Settings. It wants to sync attributes like Passwords, Language Settings, Ease of Access settings across all your Windows devices. I firmly believe that having Windows Sync On is what is causing the Sign-In nag message that started up a few days back. It may also explain the OP's issues with Outlook.
