    Hi there
While these Office clones are workable - the one thing they don't have is a decent email program that works for a load of different accounts.

Pretty well anybody who has interaction with an office workplace or does any sort of e-commerce etc will need a sensible email client --- while Thunderbird is just about OK it just isn't as stable or functional as OUTLOOK especially when Exchange type servers / IMAP servers are being used --in particular if you have different inbound and outbound servers with possibly different password and logon credentials.

While online things like outlook.com or a web based email client ( I really hate those --usually riddled with ads as well and as slow as molasses) might be OK for some small home users one really does need for any sensible type of account these days to use a robust professional email client - and outlook with its full integration with the rest of the Office suite IMO doesn't have any serious competition.

If people like using Linux there's no problem in running Windows as a Virtual Machine -- thereby you can continue using office.

    Cheers

I gave up on the VM approach to this. For me it's either 100% Microsoft or 100% Linux.

I see that you are also a Linux user. I am sure some companies use Linux and open source rather than Microsoft but in terms of LibreOffice there is no competition to Microsoft Office, if this data is correct: https://discovery.hgdata.com/product/libreoffice

This is actually a shame because more competition is better for any product especially operating systems and much used software like Office suites.
