Can't add document to Excel jump list

I am no longer able to add a new pinned Excel document to the Excel jump list on the Taskbar. I can remove existing items from the jump list, but when I try to pin a new item to it my request is ignored. I can manage my MS Word jump list without any problems.
I've tried using the "Reset_and_Clear_Recent_Items.bat" script (refrred to elsewhere on this forum)
to fix this, but it failed because it couldn't find the relevant folders in \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent
    Any ideas?

It would help if you told us what version of Office (Excel) you're talking about?

Anyway this article explains how Office 365 works - Customize the Recently Used Files List in Microsoft Office. I just tested option #5 with Excel and it worked for me.

Sorry it's Excel 2016 (not the Office 365 version). I tried pinning a document from the Recent files list using the option inside Excel but again it didn't get added to the jump list.

Humor me. Open your jump lists from the taskbar, mouse over one and click the pin icon. Does it pin?

Trying to pin from within Excel (opening Excel, pinning from the jump lists there) doesn't work for me. It only works from the taskbar - mouse over, click pin icon, pinned (as shown above in red). Again, this is Office 365.

Why it only works this way I can not say.

No - I tried that and it won't pin (that's how I used to pin things before, when it still worked). The screen flickers when I click on the pin, but the document remains on the Recent list, rather than moving up to the Pinned list

Well I don't have any other suggestions as it should be working as shown. But again this is Office 365, 2016 obviously seems to be doing something different.

    Sorry, nothing further to add.

    Good luck.
