    Still no joy

But have had a few more hints.
I think it odd that I can' seem to get any response at all from posting this on the MS forums but such is Life.

All of the times it happens they are travelling. In some recent reading i found mention that the Autodiscover function starts out by using DNS to find out where to connect a user to their account.

Most of these problems are occuring in airports and hotels while using a "Free WiFi" service. I have tried to convince them to use either their cellphone hotspot or one of their MiFi units but both of them are reluctant to run up charges on their Data plan. Their laptops are set to prefer local WiFi whch puts them at the mercy of whatever DNS server is being allowed on the router for the Free Wifi. I have read reports that maon of the Free Wifi setups use a DNS service that is structuted to route people to and thru specific locations in order to generate revenue for the host of the "Free" WiFi.

After all somebody has to pay the bill for that Free WiFi Service, it could be that they are being routed into areas that do not provide the best... or ANY , routing that would assist the autodiscover service.

My own preferred solution would be to quit fighting the "Future of things" and simply use the WebPortal for Outlook because it works every time in every situation, regardless of how they connect to the Internet. Once there, getting their email is effortless. This problem has reached the point of not being worth the effort to figure out "why". No one is doing "without" email, they need to use it in the manner that works. Since the WebPortal is technically where all the email goes to and comes from anyway, it would make more sense to use it to start with.

The world has plenty of other problems that are far more pressing than trying to find a way to force an old desktop software routine to keep working when the newer replacement is already there in perfect order.

Thanks to everyone for all your ideas. I wish one of them had worked as she wont be happy when I give her my final avice on this. For some reason she is adamantly against using the Portal Version of Outlook even though it is more up-to-date and faster to send and receive a reply from. I won't deny that I tend to use desktop Outlook as well but only because I don't have any problems as she does. If i did, I would be jumping on the Portal without looking back.

    Good luck

Yes, some people hate change . . . I'll give you that, but this problem is far beyond hating change!

In the first place, Mail does not work for me. Period!

Secondly, I have a subscription to Office 365, so why in the world would I use a web based email service when Outlook does so much more?

Thirdly, if there's a problem with Outlook, Microsoft should fix the problem. If I'm going to pay for a subscription, I should not be forced to use another email client when I already have one I've paid for.

Forcing something people don't want down our throats, is definitely not the way to go. Windows 2010 has a lot of built-in choices . . . and that's what we should have . . . the choice to use what we choose, not something we don't want.
