    Office 365 and 2016

My old computer had a serious failure, and I purchased a new Dell i3670, which included a one month trial subscription of Office 365. I purchased a card called Office 365 Personal for about $70 including tax from Best Buy. If I do nothing, Office 365 trial will automatically start and Iíll be billed about $100. Iím ready to cancel my trial version and install 365 Personal, but have two questions:

Office 365 includes two ďrepairĒ features, one where it attempts to make repairs without affecting programs and data, and the second where 365 is reinstalled, and I assume I must reinstall all programs I have installed, and all data. Are these features available in all Office 2016 versions, such Home and Student, (and the card I purchased)? I already have an issue with Word, but cannot fix it, probably because I am using the trial version.

When I cancel my trial version, and install my ďcardĒ, must I reinstall programs and data?

    Hi Jim

As I understand it Office 365 is the equivalent to Office 20xx except one you own and one you rent / lease. As well Office 365 will update to the latest Office so now that would be Office 2019.

I would uninstall all previous versions of Office anything on your device and then install.

Are you restricted in the amount of information you can download or is the DL speed the issue.

I'm not sure what you mean by data. Your Word, Excel and Powerpoint files are just stored in your libraries. They don't have to be re-installed.

The only exception I can think of is Outlook. Your profile (mail accounts / passwords) and possible PST file.

What data are you referring to? I very easily could have missed something you are doing with program addins or specialized templates.

I'm unaware of the two repairs you mentions. When researching I found this article.

    Hi Ken
Regarding repairs, I could not find the site I was thinking about, but the following links cover the topic:

    Downloading the tool:
    https://www.intowindows.com/download-office-365-troubleshooting-tool-from-microsoft/

Using it to repair office 365:

I searched for repair office 2016, but could not find a link that repaired Office 2016 in a similar manner.

The first link you posted is for fixing Outlook, primarily, and for those with an Office 365 account.

Are you planning on changing your email address to an Office 365 account?

The second link is the screen shots from a standard windows 10 Office Repair.

You didn't mention what kind of data are you talking about re-installing?

    Ken:
I briefly searched for a similar repair tool for Office Home and Student with no luck, so assume it is only available for Office 365.

I did not try the first link, and thought it covered downloading the repair tool. The tool was available when I attempting to use it; no downloading required. I have not been able to find it recently.

Go to How To Repair Office 365 Install On Windows 10, and look for Repair your Office 365 installed on Windows 10

    There is an official
    Office 365 troubleshooting tool
available to common Office 365 issues but it might not be able to resolve all Office 365 problems and errors (per Microsoft).

Go to step 3. I think Modify covers the repair with no reinstallation. The second choice is to reinstall. I had no luck using the repair and assume it didnít work because Iím still in the trial period.

If you have Office 365 installed and have a backup available hould problems occur; you could try it.

No, I'll continue using my existing email address. I'm just getting ready to cancel my Office 365 and using Office 365 Personal, which is cheaper, roughly $70 instead of $100. I'll keep all existing "things" as much as possible. I may try Home and Student in the future, and wondered if the repair tool was available.

You don't have to reinstall any programs or data after an Office 365 repair.

No, perpetual Office installations only get a single repair function, not Quick or Online options like Office 365: Repair an Office application

Maybe we are saying the same thing. The repair Office is the standard repair you get when you click start > settings > Apps > Office > modify > repair

The Office 365 trouble shooting tool seems to centre around outlook 365 mail accounts. Then some other stuff if you can't activate and things.
