    Hi there

Can you be a bit more specific / post what you've got now and what you want to do.

Okay,, the example is just a small sample of my data.
Lie I said , I want a cell that is an L to have a red fill if the cell below is > 8.
The cell contents can change and that is why I need to use conditional formatting.
But I need help on how to do it.
You can find the conditional formatting icon in the Home tab at the top.

    Hi,
I have managed this but it needs to be a three stage process.
Firstly set a cell to show a value of one if the letter is L.
Then set another cell to show the value one if the cell value is below 8.
Now add these two cells together & if the value is 2 then colour the box red.
This can be hidden/ done on another sheet too.
    See included example!

    Len,

You could retry the attachment now. I've just been able to open it without any problems. [Perhaps @Lottiemansion has altered it since your first try]

    Len,

It is easier to explain for the top half only. The bottom half is done the same way.

    Conditional formating-xlsxsnip.png

Rows 8 & 9 contain formulas that assess the state of your input rows 1 & 2.
    - Row 8 assesses If YourInputRow2 less than 8 then 1 otherwise 0
    - Row 9 assesses If YourInputRow1 is L then 1 otherwise 0

Row 7 adds these two results together [I used the label "Add both of the results below"]. So, for example, the total would be 2 if both input row 2 is less than 8 and input row 1 is L.

In your input row 1, select the cell and look in Conditional formatting, Manage rules. You'll see that the red highlight is applied if row 7 has the value 2.

In other words, the red highlight is applied if both input row 2 is less than 8 and input row 1 is L.
