Intstalling Off.2010 on storage and W10 on SSD?

I had to reinstall W10 (worked, yay!)

Now I have to install my Office 2010 discs and get any updates from way back when.

I installed W10 on my SSD.

Is it ok to install Office 2010 on the 1TB storage drive?

I would prefer to save the SSD for W10, and speed intensive software (video editing, multitrack audio recording, PhotoShop, online multiplayer games.)

I use Word and Excel and Outlook set to an Outlook.com address (ost file.)

Any potential issues for Windows and or Office if I run Office from the HD rather than the SSD?

    Thanks

How large is the SSD? Obviously Office would load faster from it as its a fairly large program to load.

    Hi there
    @Wynona
    that will work just fine

depending how old your Office iso is you will probably get 2 or 3 complete pages of Office 2010 updates -- It's still "In Life" until Q4 2020 and from my own experience has a mega load less problems than any later version(s) of office - especially these new hideous "click2run" things.

It's possible you might have to re-activate after install on W10 but should probably install automatically. Again depending how old your iso is you might find office 2010 sp1 and 2 will install too.

Personally I'm 100% happy with Office 2010 -- I tried 2016 and 2019 but after they converted to click2run versions I couldn't get anywhere with setting email accounts etc etc. Extra Language feature wouldn't install either. No prop with Icelandic on Office 2010 - language downloaded and installed perfectly.

Apart from some collaborative / teamwork stuff which I don't need - there's always skype etc for that then there's very little new stuff in later versions of EXCEL -- about the only thing missing is a better way of handling pivot tables in EXCEL -- not that office 2010 doesn't do pivot tables - office 2019 does them better !! however you'd probably have to be a mega power user of excel to appreciate that feature anyway.

Not sure why slow loading from SSD - you must have something else problematic on the system or a mega load of updates taking place. I've even found running a Windows VM on a Linux system from an external USB 2 (yes 2 not 3) SSD connected device response just fine -- note the whole OS (Linux Host, Windows VM) is booted from an external SSD connected to machine via SATA-->USB2 connector). With USB3 connector instead of USB 2 performance is almost identical to what I'd expect booting from internal SSD. !!!

    Cheers

Hi, Jimbo. I have a subscription to the hideous "click2run" Office 365 2016 and have had for a few years. It updates quietly in the background, but Outlook has always been a problem for me; it's one thing after another. All other apps in O365 work as advertised and are fine.

With every clean install of Windows 10 Insider Preview, I do have to reinstall O365, which activates. Someone mentioned installing it on a second "data type" drive, so I may try that just to see if it works. Maybe an external . . .

I hear your pain with Outlook; if I could find something else that would work (tried TBird a year or so ago and it was a no go), I'd be all over it. Outlook is the worst I've ever had to work with, but at the moment, it's all that's available.

I'm pretty good with Excel, but nowhere near expert. I don't have a problem with anything I normally do, though.

It's Outlook. What else can I tell ya? Maybe because it's that new hideous "click2run" thing.

Still faster than a hard drive! I haven't used a software email client for a couple of years now.

Thanks everyone. I had decided to load Office 2010 Home Premium or whatever it is called, on the SSD - forgetting that I do not need the database or Powerpoint. Sigh. But it really didn't take up much room. Still miffed I wasted space on two programs I will never use.

Is there a way to remover those two and leave Word, Excel, and Outlook?

Uninstall Office 2010 and then reinstall only the programs you want/need.

So, that will not mess up all the Microsoft tentacles running through Windows? I know how integrated Office can be.

But better to do it now before I start using all this stuff. I will look up how to unintall and reinstall Office. Thanks
