Hi, thanks for alerting. No I am not on insider version. The glitch has persisted through the last 3 or 4 public updates. Unfortunately I don’t go in for any insider stuff because I don’t want to be subjected to anything not fully tested. Not that it’s helped in this scenario!

This bug only began prob 5-6 weeks ago. Possibly co inciding with update to 1809 (or a specific build of office) and has survived through a few updates since. seems specific to 365 rather than 2016 etc. It’s very intermittent as last time it happened was over two weeks ago. Quite a few people I know have commented on it so whilst it’s prob not widespread it’s relatively common. Dealing with MS in various forms (feedback, Twitter , their forum etc ) just falls on deaf ears. Unfortunately it’s driving me nuts and just builds more discontent towards MS. I tried all the troubleshooting (repair etc etc) but it always comes back. Convinced it’s a bug, possibly even server related at MS where on login something happens (or doesn’t happen) and it just breaks offices ability to start and only a restart can help (simply logging out and in doesn’t cut it, nor does trying another user account)

    cheers Wayne

Thank you, I’ll look into that but it’s difficult to stay not updated and be without latest security. A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family too!

Happened again this morning! Reboot immediately fixed it. Continuing to harass MS with very little response. Very frustrated

I am sure this is internet related. Office 365 tapping a server or something on start up and if MS fails to respond it hoses it up with no chance to work without a full restart. If that is the case then that is so poor as office 365 should be able to work offline (or if online but relevant MS server fails to handshake with 365). This is of course total speculation on my part.

And it happens again tonight, once more necessitates a reboot after which it is fine!

Just happened to me again - first time in about 2 months.
Very annoying. As I was in the middle of something I killed the Office Click to run service in task manager.
Tried to start Excel and it started straight away - no reboot required. If it does it again will try this first. May have just been lucky this time.
