EXCELLENT Free Office suite (compatible With Office 2016/2019)

    Hi folks

For those that don't need or want subscriptions to Office 2016 / 365 etc this suite just keeps getting better and better

Downloads - WPS Office Community (Windows Link also on the page)

I've found it as pretty well compatible with Ms stuff including .xlsx formats for EXCEL (and I'm quite a power user).

Here's a complex pie chart example copied without change from the version created in EXCEL 2016

EXCELLENT Free Office suite (comapatible With Office 2016/2019)-snapshot3.png

This is in the Linux version but it's the same for Windows too.

The only thing missing in the Free versions is it won't run VBA macros update -- it DOES NOW !!!see post nr 5 in this thread - but I rarely use those --otherwise it runs pretty well everything 100% as per EXCEL .

There's no email client in the suite but unless you get Ms Office pro versions then there isn't an email client there either so use thunderbird or similar.

Personally if Ms rams subscriptions down our throats I'll convert over to this suite -- and it's free. !!!

    Cheers

Hi, I've used this for a while. Have you ever resolved their use of the horrible Simsun font, which keeps occurring e.g. when pasting content from the web?

I've seen plenty of other such complaints.

I've tried setting the defaults time and again and given up. Thanks!

    Hi there
seems to be OK for me -- must say though I haven't tried the Windows version -- and I tend not to copy a load of stuff from the web directly from within the spreadsheet / document.

I'll try this out later with something like say stock quotes.

    Cheers

    Hi there

    @dalchina

I tend to use EXCEL -- actually VBS DOES seem to work !!!!!!!! .XLSM file -- no change from the EXCEL version

Here's spreadsheet grabbing some End of Day data from yahoo finance (High, low, open, close, volume) FTSE 100 shown here - Font stays as per the spreadsheet.

Hi. Just change the settings. You need to modify all templates.

You need to modify all of these:

Thanks.. but no luck so far.. except by using Paste Special, unformatted text - which would rather remove any chance of retaining any format characteristics- not that pasting from a browser is faithfully reproduced anyway.

Note: the problem only usually occurs in pasting text from a browser.

EXCELLENT Free Office suite (comapatible With Office 2016/2019)-1-asian-text-font-only-offer-asian-options.jpg

    - only Asian options in the drop down - you show Arial in your first- I'm wondering how?

Others were all Times New Roman- tried adding to templates.

So I'm still stuck with pasting in text like this into Writer as Simsun...

WPS Office Free | Gizmo's Freeware
I've changed every style to get rid if that damned Simsun, but if ever I paste text from another source (and have to deal with the weird pasted font, then teeediously have to select it and manually change its font/style to retain other formatting), if I happen to select a style, whether Normal, or Main paragraph, or any of the heading styles, it's always Simsun next time I try to use the style. It's a very ugly font. Even pedestrian old Arial is beautiful by comparison.

They have built WPS Office to default to Simsun no matter what the user does, just as it defaults to justified rather than left aligned (I understand East Asian text is justified rather than left or right aligned), .docx rather than .doc on save and other annoyances. A bit like the governments of certain countries- intrusive and controlling.

Why are we asked to 'use asian text' when we're trying to adjust the Latin font on a style template? The software has discrimination built into it. Give Latin default font/style template its own menus, its own configuration!

My empathy to the user who has bailed out to Libre Office. Looks like a plan, since the people at Kingsoft very evidently have little respect for the latin text-preferring user."
*the initial support request was a few years ago if memory serves, another possibly between 6 months and a year ago. Each time, so-called support staff have responded saying that they don't know what the problem could be and have suggested I upgrade to the latest version.

WPS office includes Writer (Word), Spreadsheet (Excel), Presentation (Powerpoint).

This Siimsun font nonsense has plagued a good number. I've tried some others but other than this paste/format issue this it's the one I prefer.
