Now we should not confuse where Office is installed with where you get Office. Literally no one ships software to end user any more. You buy and if you are lucky you get a box. Some are just plastic cards.

Our local Wal*Mart [40 miles away] has a number of programs on the shelf in their Electronics department that are only cards that one buys. They take up a whole lot less space than boxed offerings and lessen the shoplifting issue.

As for the program itself, I have Office 2013 on 2 Desktops and 1 Notebook, Office 2010 on a couple and even Office 2000 on the one I'm on now. A couple of tidbits: Office 2010 is the first to be offered as either 32-bit or 64-bit, Office 2007 was the first to have different file formats such as .docx and .xlsx and there was a Compatibility Pack or file convertor for Office 2000, 2000/XP and 2003 to enable using the new format.

I just bought a couple of copies of Norton. It comes in a box with a card the same size as box. You shake it and hear nothing and its so light you're sure it's nothing. I opened one in store, after buying, just to be sure. I like a little rattle.

Those cards are easy to misplace. When I get one I take pictures with my phone and print as PDF. I then load that on customers machine.

I am trying .rtf to see what happens.

RTF/Rich Text Format has always appeared in word processors as a format they could deal with, even with the built-in WordPad. There's always been issues when working with the 'fancier' formatting of documents and interchanging with others, even between the same program but different versions.

It installs.

Only get software from Microsoft site.

You can buy software at local retailer at a reduced price, sometimes.

I will be honest with you. I know of no Office product that is strictly online that you buy. Yes you can use online version on phones, tablets an inside MS email accounts.

Now the only exception and I'm not exactly sure how it is handled is Chromebooks. That is very much an online experience.

So I will say, Yes it installs.

There are other members participating in this thread and following. Anyone seen an online only version of Office that you buy??
