    Office 2016 stuck on downloading

After I just checked for office updates, this has been going on now for 45 minutes, appears to be "stuck" or one heck of a download. I am on the latest version 10730.20127? Hesitating if I should just shut it down and try again???

Did you try using Windows Update/Advanced options and tick the 'Give me updates for other MS products ... ' box ? I alwayds fetch mine this way, never within the program. Updated earlier this week.

    Hi folks

I think there's a problem with this -- I have Office 2016 (VL version NOT the Click2 Run version) which normally updates via Windows update -- somehow I clicked on update from within the office account and the thing is hosed up totally.

I think the wretched update program tries to change it into Click 2 Run versions - that's the way Ms is going so activation etc will be changed from standard business / enterprise licensing methods (kms etc).

Uninstalled office 2016 completely, rebooted computer installed the VL version again, activated and running fine.

If you have an older version of Office 2016 (Not Click 2 run version) don't run updates from within office itself.

    Cheers

Yes I do have the box checked. I just recycled the switch.

Jimbo, I have the click 2 run version. Never had a problem with this method before. I tried several times today to update to .20138 thru WU, no joy. Don't recall ever seeing any office updates in the history? Right now, I have this message in my office account. Tried it and after 30 minutes endless download updates. Tried task manager to stop it, "not responding". Only way to close it is a complete shutdown and restart but the "updates for this product are available for download" remains.

Running Offfice 2016 Professional Plus, activated with My Visual Studio "Retail" Product code. I have no Office updates listed in my Windows update history. As far as I know Office Professional Plus Retail "now" updates via click to run. Even if you have give me updates for other microsoft products selected. Thats what I was told on Microsoft's Private Yammer group. I'm currently running 10730.20127. I'm hesitant to do a manual check for updates.
I don't know what triggers an automatic check for office updates, only that they do happen all on their own. I get a prompt to close an open application (usually Outlook) when an update has been done automatically in the background.

Sitting here ready to shut down for the night, my left screen showed a "outlook box" that said the installation was complete. No restart requested or anything. Checked version number and I am on .20138. Weird stuff. I have tried "click-to-run" before and had no response, never understood what it meant since you are on that version and it is running, why would you click it to run.
