Sometimes dealing with people is just a thankless task -- we all know the genuine hard workers here who give decent advice etc and aren't scared to admit when they've made a mistake!!!
A site as big as Ten Forums, with almost 130K members, we will always have those members who would rather let the false information they have posted to be left there as facts, than to see it corrected. For these members, it is more important to leave the false information they have provided as it is, than to admit that they were wrong.

Sadly, this behaviour can be seen on each and every tech site. "Yes, I might have been wrong, but you have no right to reveal it. I want other members to think I am right!".

I'm terribly sorry for omitting 2 words from my original post: Microsoft may have deprecated …., which started this whole firestorm.

My apologies to Kari for seeming to have questioned his corrections; I wasn't attempting to state any facts, just reporting what my machine was doing. Clearly, his role as an MVP puts him in closer touch with Microsoft's actions than I now am in my retirement.

Hopefully, this will end this sequence of bad feelings everywhere. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

I prefer setting up any other than Microsoft Exchange accounts (POP3, IMAP) using Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Mail. Please notice that Outlook application must be closed, not running when doing this.

This works (at least for me) in Outlook 365.

    THANK YOU!!

Good grief! I know I set this up for my wife last year but I just spent 90 minutes repeatedly trying to set this up on Outlook for myself. I could not find a way to work around the automatic features of Outlook until I found your post.

I think it is set up now and at least I could get a reasonable error message if I did something wrong.

Wow. Seriously, this is a great post. Who would have thought the same link on what looks like the same screen would work properly in one place and improperly in the more commonly accessed place.
