Outlook 2016 - cannot create pst file -- name too long ??????

    Hi folks

Outlook 2016 - with latest updates

    what's up with this nonsense

trying to add an account from another server

can't see anything wrong with it -- account name is perfectly within Windows file lengths

Outlook 2016 - cannot create pst file -- name too long ??????-outlook.png

    any ideas

Update : re-installed office 2010 to create the account which worked fine and then re installed office 2016.

all working now -- haven't a clue what caused the problem. Marking as solved as I've got round the problem (rather long way around though Office 2010-->Office 2016) although if anybody else can actually get a proper fix -- always ready to try it.

    Cheers

If not mistaken the default pst location is in a very long path:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\<filename>.pst

Although it doesn't make any sense since its working after the re-installation, maybe you could try a shorter path e.g . C:\Mail\<filename>.pst and see if it works better.

Another thing to watch out is the non-ANSI characters. Version 1803 has changed some things in that.

It is really weird. But don't forget that we're talking about computers and more specifically software from Microsoft!!!! They have a huge track record of messing things up!

    Hi there
can't be the only person using special extra characters outside QUERTY -- all nordic countries, Turkey, Greece, slavic countries, arab ones etc to say nothing of double byte codes -- I think places like indonesia etc have those. !! Last time I checked Ms operates in pretty well every country on the planet. !!

    cheers

    Not on everything.
Try to write non-ANSI text and save it as ANSI in notepad. If you open it, you' won't be able to read it as characters are unreadable. The only way to read it, is to save it in Unicode or UTF8.
That was not an issue before 1803.
