Support for Google OAUTH in Outlook for Windows ?

    Hi all
I read here that Outlook 2016 for Mac is getting Google OAUTH support. Does anyone know, if OAUTH support is also coming for Outlook 2016 for Windows?
Thanks a lot and best regards

OAuth2/ Modern Authentication has been built into Outlook 2016 since the beginning and enabled by default. It is just that Mac OS tends to use the built in mail app and is way ahead of the game, compared to Outlook.

Thanks for the heads up, bro67
I have got myself a license for Office 2016 for Windows and installed it. However when I try to setup the IMAP gmail account using the google password (not an application specific password), I get the following error message:

Name:	Unsecure App.jpg
Views:	27
Size:	25.8 KB
ID:	198182
So it seems Outlook 2016 is not using Oauth2 to login to google.
Is there something I can do to get it to actually login using Oauth2?

That is because you have to generate a password specific to the program, like Apple does with OAuth2.

Thanks for the clarification. I set up an app specific password and that worked.
I was confused by the behavior of Thunderbird under Ubuntu, which works quite differently, when two factor authorization is enabled for Gmail. The first time you login with the normal Google password and then it runs through two factor authorization once (using the smartphone). After that Gmail seems to regard the Thunderbird client as a trusted entity.

That is because Mozilla has worked with Google to make sure that their Opensource software works out of the box with OAuth2. It is a software problem, not a website issue. Microsoft is just late to the game as usual for their software and OS.
