    MS Office 2016 installation problems

    Hello,

    I'm running a PC with Windows 10 64-bit installed.

I purchased a new copy of Microsoft Office 2016 to upgrade the installed Microsoft Office 2007.

I think I made a mistake of not first uninstalling Office 2007 before installation of Office 2016 as ended up running into a few problems.

    1. I installed Microsoft Office 2016 while Microsoft Office 2007 was still installed as I thought the 2016 installation would warn me to uninstall Office 2007 if there were going to be any problems.

    2. The Office 2016 installation went well and all the Office Programs including Outlook opened and ran ok. Outlook 2016 found my outlook.pst file from office ver. 2007.

    3. I then uninstalled office 2007 which seemed to go ok, however upon reboot all the links to Office 2007 still existed from the start button and task bar.

I tried to uninstall Office 2007 again and a message shows up

"The language of this installation package is not supported by your system"

After receiving this message several times I tried using a tool that uninstalls MS Office which shows a message box it uninstalled MS Office however upon reboot Office 2007 links still existed and MS Office 2016 won't run so I suspect the tool uninstalled MS Office 2016 instead of MS Office 2007.

So I thought no problem I'll just re-install MS Office 2016, which I did, however when I click on an Office 2016 program I receive this message box labeled
    _____________________________________________

    "Fine Print"

With a box "Accept and Start Microsoft Office"
    _____________________________________________

When I click on this box the Office app I'm trying to open crashes.

So I'm going to try to re-install again however I'm wondering if this problem keeps persisting If I may need to re-install Windows 10?

I tried a system restore however system restore won't open in regular or safe mode

Previously when I did have MS Office 2016 installed and seemed to be working ok. Every time I selected to open an Office 2016 app I was prompted to enter a license (coa) which I had done already, when I selected next there was an error message that the Office 2016 COA was used the max. number times.

I'm not certain what's going on? I'll try again to re-install MS Office 2016 perhaps it will start to function normally again.

Ok tried to re-install MS Office 2016 a second time and now it runs however each time I open a MS Office 2016 app such as Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.

I'm prompted with a message box that states.

How do you want to activate your software?

[x] I want to activate the software over the Internet (recommended)
[ ] I want to activate the software by telephone

This product will remain unlicensed until you activate your product (Click help for more information)

If I select the first one "over the Internet" and click "Next"

I receive a message from the Activation Wizard

Your copy of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016 cannot be activated because the specified Product Key has already been activated the maximum numbers of times permitted for your software license as specified in the Microsoft Software Terms. For details about the maximum allowed number of product activation, click help and then search for "Read the Microsoft Software License Terms".

If I select over the telephone it shows me

Step 1 a telephone number to call

Step 2. When prompted enter installation ID (with 9 set of number each consisting of 7 numbers)

Step 3 Enter confirmation ID here (empty boxes to enter confirmation ID

I would call the Microsoft telephone number 866-421-7141 however my cell phone doesn't have reception at my home location. I need to travel 12 miles north in order to send or receive calls.

Uninstalled MS Office 2016 and installed MS Office 365

Couldn't get MS Office to activate via online and I don't have a phone near my PC so purchased and installed a copy of MS Office 365 and was able to activate. Now MS Office seems to be working ok.

I had to eventually uninstall MS Office 2016 as at first I had problems opening Outlook which shares the same data file (Outlook.pst) however once MS Office 2016 was uninstalled Outlook was able to open and run.

Not certain what went wrong with the MS Office 2016 activation. Perhaps I can save it and try to install on another Windows 10 PC I have.

I have no idea what went wrong, but I think your suspicion that you should have uninstalled the other office version is accurate. I would have.
I'm running Office 2016 Pro on several PC's here at home. I've done many reinstalls as I'm often reinstalling Windows 10 for testing. I keep track of what Product Code was used on what PC when it was first activated on that PC. Then keep using that same product code only on that PC. No activation issues so far doing it that way.

I'm thinking of purchasing another copy of Office 2016 with a new activation code.

It's your money, if it was me i'd want to get the one I already bought working. May I ask where your buying it from? It's usually not cheap, not from a reputable source anyway.

I don't know I've been looking on eBay and found downloadable MS Office 2016 from around ~$1.50 to ~$35.00 that are suppose to be legal and include an activation key code.

I'm looking at DVD versions with key code that are suppose to be brand new and genuine range in price from ~$40.00 to ~$50.00

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/223048341519

I'm also looking at a downloadable version for ~$25.99 https://www.ebay.com/itm/153074856688?ul_noapp=true

I've been purchasing software for more than 35 years and don't really want to spend a whole lot for Office that I've been upgrading since Office 96/97. I mostly use only Outlook and may use Word and Excel once in a while.

    >>"supposed to be legal"<< but usually aren't. Those sellers often sell that same product code multiple times which results in the eventual "cannot be activated because the specified Product Key has already been activated the maximum numbers of times permitted for your software license" message you have already seen. Buyer beware is all I'm going to say. I'm not making judgements, just saying if its to good to be true, it likely isn't.
Hunt through the Windows activation section of the forum and you'll find all kinds of failed to activate with e-bay key threads.

If it's too good to be true, it usually isn't. STAY AWAY ! Legitimate one PC license is $150 student, $230 Home & Business or $399 Office Pro.

"Your copy of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016 cannot be activated because the specified Product Key has already been activated the maximum numbers of times permitted for your software license as specified in the Microsoft Software Terms."

This tells me that the key provided was a Company Volume license that has been used up to the limit which is why your turn is left out in the cold.

So if the license code works then it's a good legit copy?

Or there's really no way to determine the difference? I suppose I can call Microsoft and ask them.

I can't really afford to spend money to upgrade to another version as I've been upgrading software and hardware for more than 35 years, and Microsoft Office since ver. 96/97.

Perhaps I should look at some used earlier versions as all I use basically from Office is Outlook. I thought perhaps the 2016 version would run better under Windows 10 than e.g. the 2007 or earlier version.

If the license code doesn't work then I would seek a refund, which eBay is fairly good about. If an item isn't as described and the seller refuses to refund eBay will cancel there user account.

In the past I can remember an ebay seller canceled their membership and eBay sent me the refund.
