Basically your rolling the dice. Some sellers are selling TechNet and or MSDN keys. I was a Windows Insider MVP, one of the perks of that is a free MSDN subscription. Its now called a My Visual Studio subscription. Mine is an Enterprise NFR < Not For Resale. And they stress the not for resale aspect. I assume if I was caught reselling my keys they would "all" be immediately blacklisted. If these people only ever sold "a" key to "a" individual it would likely be a usable key. They get greedy and sell the same key multiple times and eventually Microsoft detects the miss use and blacklists the key. They likely don't really care if they get canceled on e-bay. They have no moral code.
Or its somebody that was fired that's reselling any company keys they made note or etc.

    I found

Microsoft Office Professional 2016 BRAND NEW Genuine w/USB 2PC Install Free Ship

It appears to be genuine all packaging is new and unopened. (Note: I don't think it should be up to a buyer to police software, if there's a problem then the manufactures will need to figure out some sort of solution.)

Last one left, cost was $49.95 with free shipping. Seller feedback 2626 with 100 percent positive feedback rating.

I have a spare PC running Windows 10 that's nearly identical but not used much. USB drive also has copies of MS Office 2016 so 2016 can be installed directly from the USB drive.

Are you trying to convince me, or you, that's its legit? I'm not trying to be a smart @ss or anything. If you think its good go for it. Its your money. But one wonders (or at least I do) how it is that this person can sell it to you, cheaper than Microsoft can? Where did they get it from? Just my 2 cents.
I personally wouldn't buy software of off e-bay. Especially Windows or Office. I'm spoiled though, I've been getting all my Microsoft software for free as an MVP. Now that that is over I'll just keep running Office 2016 until it won't work anymore. For the most part I only use Word and Outlook. Outlook can be bought Stand Alone by the way. At least I think it can, I have separate keys for just it on my subscription.

It's not up to me to convince anyone that something is legit or not. I'm not certain how the ebay seller obtained the software. If eBay thinks an auction is illegal and/or the seller is running some sort of scam then the seller auction should be pulled and possibly lose their membership. Each case all the facts would need to be considered. Some sellers may make honest mistakes and eBay will give them a warning and if it happens again usually they will lose their membership.

Here's few links for both buyers and seller on eBay

I don't believe it's the responsibility of the buyer to police software sales however buyers these days need to watch out what their purchasing not only from ebay but from every online and offline stores.

As you really don't know what your buying any more and many products don't last very long where most are designed to be either replaced or upgraded.

Years ago many products were made to last such as 30+ years and designed to be affordably repaired. That's no longer true. None of the products for the home unless industrial or professional quality last very long as their designed / engineer to either fail or be upgraded within a certain amount of time. Which is mainly for making profits in the selling of mass produced products in high volumes. The goal of many of companies that mass products is to make billions, potentially trillions of dollars in profit often without much or any consideration of their customers.

So if the license code works then it's a good legit copy?

Or there's really no way to determine the difference? I suppose I can call Microsoft and ask them.
In my experience when you buy office (the classic license, not the subcription one for 365) you have a limited number of installs,
the install key can work but it will not activate the product after you have exhausted your install option.

If the license code works it's not enough to tell that the copy is legit.

This is how you can understand if it is a legit copy:

    - If it is a legit copy it will activate.
    - if it's not a legit copy it will not activate.

You could try to use Libreoffice, totally fine and legit to install on as many pc as you like and avoid the nuisance at once.

If you're so concerned about this sale, I'll provide you with the e-bays seller ID and you can investigate them or have then investigate and then if you find them guilty of selling illegitimate t software you can report them to eBay and perhaps the proper or local authorities?

As for known legitimize software I'm not certain how any store actually obtains their legit software. If you take a look at the actual history of software development even by legit manufacturers you will find at least some of their code was stolen at some point in time in their companies history. E.g. the first operating systems, part of the code that help develop os for PC's was illegally downloaded from mainframes. Over time much of the code that exists today comes from code that's been illegally stolen.

There's alot of illegal products sold at all the deportment stores such as Walmart, Sears, etc. as much being sold is produced by slave labor. Which is illegal.

I question how is the packaging and media of the software actually made. Was it made from energy made from fracking, coal and oil the pollutes the environment? How many deaths have occurred due to the mass production of these products?

Why do manufactures design products to fail? They purposely design products that are un reparable, costing too much to repair, it must be replaced. The purpose of this is to increase their sales. Products use to be manufactured to last 30+ years. Today products you lucky if it lasts 3 to 7 years. These $30,000 cars on the market today are design to last a max. of ~100,000 miles and then scrapped. There scrapped because it's too expensive to repair them. The basic reason for this type of production is to sell more vehicles.

Is this type of mass production actually legal? How was the land acquired that these companies own and exist on. Much of the land in North America and the US was acquired through genocide (wiping out of entire populations of people) This is legal?

I've been using PCs for over 35 years and spent over a million dollars in both time and money on computers. However I've never made one red cent off of them. I was into PCs because of interest in the technology and not for profit. Have spent thousand of hours helping to developed computer software and hardware but have never been paid for my time.

I don't believe it's the responsibility of the buyer to police software sales.
You still have the choice to use different software for istance Debian:

    1. Our priorities are our users and free software We will be guided by the needs of our users and the free software community. We will place their interests first in our priorities. We will support the needs of our users for operation in many different kinds of computing environments. We will not object to non-free works that are intended to be used on Debian systems, or attempt to charge a fee to people who create or use such works. We will allow others to create distributions containing both the Debian system and other works, without any fee from us. In furtherance of these goals, we will provide an integrated system of high-quality materials with no legal restrictions that would prevent such uses of the system.
    https://www.debian.org/social_contract.en.htmlth

the purpouse of companies is of course to make money.

I use office mainly for Outlook. Libreoffice I don't believe has an e-mail client so it woundn't do me any good.

If the Office 2016 with two keys on a USB stick doesn't activate with two separate keys on two different PC's then I will ask for a refund and the reason for the return will be part of the return process.

I think this is your best option.

    P.S.

I can suggest Thunderbird as a mail client, it is not identical to outlook but it can do a good job too.

I see your an Ubuntu User. I too have worked with Unix and Linux machines. VAX mainframes I have worked with were running Unix. However I never really got that much into Linux as most of the programs I owned were DOS and Windows. I currently have a bootable USB drive with Ubuntu installed that I use once in a while.

Over the years I've used different mail clients but got use to Outlook and Windows Mail and don't really want to change and learn another e-mail client. I've been using Outlook iirc since Office 96/97 of which I still have the Microsoft CD.

Anyway Here's a link to the ebay seller. Sold at least 82 of the 2PC MS Office 2016 on USB key. I haven't found any complaints for this seller wanderlynch (2629 ) 100% Positive feedback.

    https://www.topratedseller.com/ebay/wanderlynch

I've been buying and selling on the Internet since the mid 80s and have been a member of eBay since the 90s. Haven't really had very many problems over the years. However we now have alot of new sellers some of which appear to be trying to use eBay and the internet for false pretenses, running scams, etc. So I take a close look at auctions often messaging sellers asking questions. If the seller's response isn't reasonable or doesn't answer my question(s) then I look elsewhere and don't bid on their items.

Message from seller after purchasing their Office 2016 key.

Thank you for your purchase valued customer, it's greatly appreciated.

Your order has shipped USPS (free of charge), and under normal, non-holiday, non-weather, non-weekend related delay conditions, you should receive it within approximately 3-5 business days. However, packages can be re-routed by USPS due to relating weather conditions, causing unforeseen delays.

Please know that all my eBay customers are very important to me. In the rare event of an issue with your order, (like a defective item, etc.), please contact me first and give me the opportunity to replace it and make it up to you. I say this because I take selling on eBay seriously, as it helps to support my three children. Please don't leave negative or neutral feedback before contacting me first, if anything, no feedback at all is even better than neutral or negative feedback.

I’m available via eBay email 24/7 should you ever need assistance.

It's my pleasure to serve you. Have a blessed day and a nice weekend!

Ok, I went online and chatted for around a half hour with an Agent from Microsoft about the Microsoft Office 2016 USB key for 2PC as noted in previous post with pic of the key.

After downloading and executing an app from my PC allowed the agent control of my PC to view and inspect files plus have a more secure connection than a standard chat session.

After providing her with the activation key code. She found this version of Microsoft Office 2016 Professional Plus from the USB Key is one hundred percent legit.

I asked her about if ever needing to transfer to a new PC and she said all I would need to do is call Microsoft to have the license transferred. For some reason this version doesn't show up in my Microsoft Account even though it's registered to the same name and e-mail as my Microsoft Account.

Anyway if it wasn't a legit copy then I would have initiated an eBay refund along with a reasonable explanation.

So even though eBay does have it's share of dishonest sellers as does the rest of society, not all eBay sellers are bad and dishonest. There are good and honest sellers on eBay some I may trust over other sellers found online and offline.
