    Problems reinstalling Office 2016

Over the past few days I've posted regarding Office 2016/365. It's been giving me various problems, and so I have decided to do a complete uninstall/reinstall from the ISO.

Except now I cannot reinstall; I continue to get a message saying that I have to remove 'Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component 64-bit Registration' since my version of Office is 32 bit. The problem is that even after deleting the Extensibility Component, I still cannot reinstall. Does anyone have any ideas??

    Thanks a lot,

First thing to do is to go through each step in this Office Support document: Manually uninstall Office - Microsoft Office

That will take some time, I have done this a few times and dislike the complexity of it every time, but it has always helped me to reinstall Office.

One step not mentioned on that page is to restart when done, before reinstalling Office.

Thanks for your reply, Kari. Unfortunately, I cannot follow the instructions you refer to, as Office has already been uninstalled. I am trying to reinstall it, but cannot because the Click-to-Run- Extensibility Component is (apparently) still on my PC, even though I have deleted it!!

Yes, you can and should follow those instructions to get rid of all Office registry entries, scheduled tasks and such.

In my case, I have only been forced to use that method in similar situation as yours. Office uninstalled, reinstall not working. By checking every last item on that list, deleting if something found, that has finally allowed me to reinstall.

    Hello again Kari,

I've managed to solve the problem thanks to advice offered on various websites. First of all I managed to find the Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component 64-bit Registration by following the directions given here:

Fix For Microsoft Office Setup Error: Please uninstall all 32-bit Office programs - Office 15 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component - TeckLyfe

except I probably (but I cannot remember) just deleted the file rather than actually uninstalling it, as a result of which I still couldn't reinstall Office 2016 (if I had uninstalled the component from here, I probably could have saved myself a lot of extra trouble!)

Seeing as I evidently still had to get rid of the Click-to-Run Extensibility Component 64-bit Registration, I managed to track it down via the registry (HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\00006109DD0000000100000000F01FEC) and eliminate it there. Details are provided at:

Remove Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component

I hope this info may be of use to someone else sooner or later....
