For my next Dumb Question... WPS Writer and MS Word

I'm trying out WPS Office. Trying to use Writer. I need to change margins. Everytime I change margin width, and then close Writer, then open it again, the margin width is back to default. I even tried saving a blank Document with the changed width but it didn't work.

It does the same thing in MS Word. Cannot save margin width. Always goes back to default width.

Any idea how to "lock" the changed margin width?

    Are you
    a. trying to change the default settings for a new document each time you launch the program? E.g. by changing the margin, then closing the program, and hoping it will be the same next time?
    b. changing the margin, saving the document, then finding when you reopen that document, the margin hasn't changed?
    c. something else

Have you looked into creating templates?

    (b) works for me very readily with WPS writer- the document reopens with margin as saved.

Both Writer and Word have a Margin Setting. Opening that Setting, shows several default margins from 1", to 0.75", to 0.5" and Custom. I clicked on the 0.75" margin. I was hoping to change the default margin from 1" to 0.75", click OK, exit the Writer and later when I need it, it will open with margin at 0.75". It doesn't. Always opens at 1".

I then changed the margin to 0.75" again, saved a blank document, then closed the Writer. Opening it later, and I get 1.0" again.

Same thing happens in MS Word.

I used MS Word and Excel in College over 20 years ago. I have forgotten Sooo much its not funny. MS Word is the easy one for me. I really need to start using Excel, but I don't remember it anymore.

Maybe you can post a screenshot or say exactly which margin setting in Writer you're referring to?

Double click on Writer Icon on Desktop. Opens up to a bunch of Templates. Click on New Document. Along the top, click on Page Layout, then Margins. Dropdown box shows Last Custom Setting, Normal, Narrow, Moderate, Wide. Normal is Hi-lighted. I click on Moderate, the Template on the screen changes.

Now, if I exit at this point, or save a blank Template and exit, the next time I open, its back at Normal.

P.S. Me and screenshots don't get along.

    - no Page Layout. IS yours different?

File, Page Layout takes me to the first screenshot above.

This is what I typically use for screenshots:

I can't do it. I need Page Layout and then Margins both . As soon as I try to snip, the Margins disappears.

Your Writer looks a lot different from my Writer.

    Yes..mine's 2016, free, 10.2.0.5965

The way to capture dialogues that disappear (lose focus) when you click to select the screenshot is to use PrtSc or the equivalent.

    That prog also allows this:
