File not found when doing Save As

(Office 2016) This problem happens with Office Apps (Pub,Excel,Word etc) since build 1803. When I try to "save as" a file to my C:, I get this message "File not found" It will "save as" to an external drive without issue. Permissions problem??? OR??

Hi have you looked in Documents and see if it has been saved as something else.
I test word and excel on insider have never come across the problem you have put

Also it should auto save which will save a file to word excel etc
have you looked in file explorer and looked in all your document folders

Where precisely on C:, to your user folder, in documents? If so, look at your notifications. Do you see any Defender Controlled Folder Access notifications?

It will "save as" to an external drive without issue.
External drives are not included in the folders being protected, you user folders are by default.

The 'file not found' message is typical of what you see when Windows Defender Controlled Folder Access is turned on and has just blocked changes. Either add the app you are saving from to the list of apps allowed through controlled folder access or turn off the protection.

Thanks for the suggestions, cycled the "controlled folder access" radio button. It was OFF to start with, denied access (Document Folder) with "file not found" cycled it ON and became accessible, back to OFF, it remains accessible, "save as" seems normal. I left the setting to ON. Will continue to monitor behavior before I call it solved. Tx

It was odd too that Office was being blocked, that should have already been in the built-in whitelist that controlled folder access uses. I can only thing that it was misconfigured initially, being partially 'on' but not using its whitelist. Turning it properly 'on' got the whitelist loaded, so Office was no longer being blocked.

This isn't the only setting that I heard of as being 'fixed' by toggling it off and on again.
