    Outlook 2016

This is probably more a Gmail settings question then an Outlook question but here goes.

I use Outlook 2016 since it's release with 6 live, outlook accounts and 1 gmail account for years and years. I received an email from Google stating that my gmail account security settings was not set fully/correctly setup. So I follow the prompts to do so and did so. I had to go to sign-in&security/apps with account access/scroll all the way down the page/change "allow less secure app from on to off.

Now when I open my Outlook 2016 to check my emails....I get the never ending account credentials loop for my gmail account. Racking my brain for an hour, it finally dawned on my to go back and re-do what I just did. Bingo.....my gmail account works again in Outlook 2016.

Has anybody run across this before? Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

I got that message yesterday, looked at the items that were "in question" (my windows cellphone was highlighted) and after reading the instructions, decided to leave well enough alone. There were 5 other items as well, all my windows computers/tablets, android etc. Only suggestion is to roll back to the last macrium image.??

    Thanks for the input.

My point/issue is....if you turn on/off the "allow less secure app" in the security settings of "my account" once you sign into Chrome, this is where my gmail account does and doesn't work with Outlook 2016.

I think that Google setting is probably enabling/disabling pop3 access i.e. it is not your application that it is claiming to be insecure but your method of mail retrieval.

You should be able to set your gmail account up as an imap email account in Outlook & that would allow you to pass Google's secure apps test. I imagine that the relevant settings are explained somewhere on Google or, if not, perhaps you could use a search engine to find them.

After checking....it seems it's already set up as IMAP account in Outlook.

I'm sorry. I misled you. Google has a downer on Outlook however it is set up.

    Plankton,

I also found this explanation but have no idea if it is valid or not - WDurham post on 12th Nov 2015 in Google product forums

Thanks for the link....but that's what I've already done. I have set "less secure apps" to on.

Go figure that it's with Google....well at least I know. Now....how to get MS and Google to work together to fix it.

    Plankton

It was the explanation posted by WDurham that I thought was useful rather than the standard stuff in the rest of that thread.
