Win 10 ver 1803 installed. Now MS Excel doesn't work. Open file,start to enter data and file goes to Recovering File than closes the file. I have Office XP Pro that worked with replaced ver of Win 10 Pro.

Considering the extreme age of this software, it's not surprising that it is now having problems.
Most modern CPUs support virtualisation so why not consider installing Windows XP in a virtual host and office XP in that.
I have Office 2000 installed on an IP/Insider Preview computer, Version 1803 Build 17672.1000, seems to be fine. I think the biggest issues will come with using its Outlook but I don't need that on that computer. Office 2000 is not a 'left-over', newly installed after Version 1709 was running.
My IP computer is 64-bit and Office is 32-bit, didn't need Compatibility mode to install. Office 2010 is the first to be available as either 32-bit or 64-bit.
It's a "known" problem. Excel only crashes with 64-bit Win10. Excel 2003 has a similar problem but some have been able to fix it.

Hi folks
run it as a VM - an XP VM doesn't take much storage or resources -- then you can keep using Office XP until the end of the universe.
Once you've created your documents save to say a USB / external HDD and then copy to your main machine if you need to email them anywhere .
I wouldn't allow an XP machine these days - even a VM access to the Internet.
You can of course share HDD's with an XP system -- use HOST ONLY networking between Host and XP VM.

A workaround is:
1. Select all cells, change justification to something different.
2. Enter you data or whatever.
3. Select all cells, change justification back.
4. Save
