I pointed a user on another forum to that thread. Their Excel 2003 had stopped working after updating to 1803. From your link....
I believe the solution has been found.
Turn on "update other Microsoft products" under windows update...
After multiple passes (and a few reboots) downloading more updates each time they reported back that it had been successful (but a lot of work).

Interesting thread, may have to try it with my Office 2003. So far the basics of Office 2000 are okay on one of my IP/Insider Preview computers with Version 1803 Build 17672.1000. I won't try Outlook as that seems to cause issues more than the other applications in the suite/s.

Having updated to 1803 64 bit last night I am now unable to use Excel 2002. I have always had 'update other Microsoft products' switched on. Please advise if a fix is imminent or should Open Office become my default applcation.

    Welcome to tenforums @Excalpino

Do you have the latest service pack installed? I believe for OfficeXP/2002 that was SP3. If you do have SP3, read the link in post #1 again. You'll see that multiple passes of checking for updates may be needed to get them all.

If you don't have SP3, then unfortunately Microsoft have long since removed the download from their servers. But it is still available through the archived copy of the MS download page on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. This is the safest source for 'no longer available' MS downloads, don't trust any third-party 'download' sites - you risk getting something 'unexpected' bundled in with the download

The smaller -client-enu version requires files from the original disks. If you don't have the original install disks any more you'll need the larger OfficeXpSp3-kb832671-fullfile-enu.exe version.

    Thanks to Bree for reply
Yes I am using SP3 and all updates installed - Excel 2002 crashes as soon as any data amended.

Excel 2002 crashes after update 1803 as soon as type number into cell

    Hi
Having exact same problem, Excel will let you type text into cells but as soon as type a number will polo and close rendering it useless.
I've tried all I know, re installed, compatibility settings etc no joy.
2 chats with MS all I got at the end was " we highly recommend getting the latest version of office 2016" failing to mention they are about to release 2018 and so down the line after coughing up again will be back to square 1.
This 1 has really narked me, it's not the money it's the principle and intentional disruption they have caused.

I used to have Office 2003 Professional. Served me well over the years. Its EOL is the same as Win XP EOL. I, reluctantly, upgraded to Office 365 about 2 years ago.

The longer time goes on with older software, the more issues arrive with trying to run it in modern Windows. One solution might be to use it in a virtual environment from the time such as XP but that has its own drawbacks.

As Microsoft pushes out update 1803 to more users, this issue will snowball.
I've tried other office alternative, but the Excel graphs don't look right.
There are many users who don't need the features that later Office versions offer.
For now, I'm using the 32-bit machine to enter Excel data into a spreadsheet that is updated monthly.

LibreOffice & OpenOffice modify the colors of the Excel graphs.
    An easier workaround is:
    1. Select all cells, change justification to something different.
    2. Enter you data or whatever.
    3. Select all cells, change justification back.
    4. Save
