Latest update crashes Office (Excel) files.

    Hi,
This morning I realised Win 10 updated itself overnight. In doing so it has caused serious problems with my old trustworthy Office XP. I can't open any files or enter any data as all files crash. I have uninstalled and re-installed (with restarts) twice but it doesn't fix the problem.

    Any ideas please?

    Cheers,
    Keith

Office 2003 and earlier including your Office XP/2002 have been unsupported for awhile now, Office 2007 and 2010 probably soon to follow. Downside to that is no guaranteed they will keep working. As for a cost-free diagnostic or solution download the free LibreOffice and try your files again. The only things LibreOffice doesn't have a comparable program in their suite are Publisher and Outlook E-Mail client. Home | LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Fun Project - Fantastic People

Office 2007 came off support October 2017. Agree with Berton, doesn't mean it won't work just isn't supported.

You can get access to Excel online (most recent version) with a Hotmail.com or Outlook.com (or live or msn) email address.

LibreOffice is what I recommend to people who want a free full functioning productivity suite.

Thanks guys. I'll give Libre Office a go. I did download another Office Suite some time ago and it worked well with my files after a little tweaking so that's the way to go now I suppose.....

If you still have issues you may have to fall back to 1709, I assume last night you got V1803, install Libre and then convert files.

If you fall back to 1709 and depending on edition you are running you may have to impede the V1803 update by marking your connection metered.

V1803 will be made part of the WU cycle starting today.

Nice thing about LibreOffice there isn't much converting needed, probably mostly with Macros [but I don't use them]. LO will also save/resave in the format as opened, will get prompts about that.

I've installed LO and it's working fine. I need to do some tweaks but no biggy. The new Win 10 update, apart from dumping some of my shortcuts, seems to be working fine.
    Cheers.

    Great news.

We should see some patches later today with the CU.

No patches for Office XP/2002 (32-bit). Maybe be forced to use LibreOffice.
Crash does not occur on Window 10-32 bit, ver. 1803.

Hi Comp Cmndo. I've sadly given up now with my old reliable Office XP. I did install Libre but I found it to have lots of glitches so I installed OpenOffice instead and I've had no probs.
