Office 2010 when do security updates stop

    Hi there

just wondered when security support for Office 2010 would end I keep saying upgrade! but you know it´s often (usually / always) a question of $$$$´s !!

Actually if you don't need some of the work collaboration stuff Office 2010 still seems perfectly good.

Office 2010 will reach its end of support on October 13, 2020. If you haven't already begun to upgrade your Office 2010 environment, we recommend you start now.

What does end of support mean?

Office 2010, like almost all Microsoft products, has a support lifecycle during which we provide bug fixes and security fixes. This lifecycle lasts for a certain number of years from the date of the product’s initial release. For Office 2010, the support lifecycle is 10 years. The end of this lifecycle is known as the product’s end of support. When Office 2010 reaches its end of support on October 13, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide the following:

    • Technical support for issues
    • Bug fixes for issues that are discovered
    • Security fixes for vulnerabilities that are discovered

Office 2010 end of support roadmap - Office 365

And here is a list with links to the life cycles for all Microsoft products: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...le/selectindex

You may need to follow links in each article to get to the actual info's you need though.

...so how come I still keep getting monthly security updates through Windows Update? KB4018353 being the latest...

How about something different but similar, can work with a number of file formats and is Free? Home | LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Fun Project - Fantastic People
There's only 2 applications by Microsoft not covered, Outlook E-Mail client and Publisher. For exchanging files with others the Defaults can be changed or set as needed.

    Hi there
    @Berton
actually there's a more compatible office suite than Libre / Free Office

A Review of Kingsoft Office Suite Free

For email thunderbird is OK too (IMO) - it supports IMAP , no ads and supports multiple accounts (and exchange type servers).

The only drawback is that setting it up is a bit of a bother these days if you have different incoming / outgoing mail servers and passwords as thunderbird like so many other programs these days tries to go for the "Idiot method easy install" --- you can do it manually but it's a bit of a fumble getting it to work. The easy install programs are wretched if you have something not quite standard.

I had the same B/S with Outlook 2016 so it's not just thunderbird. Fortunately to configure outlook 2016 manually in a way that worked somebody on this forum suggested was to configure it from the control panel --then all the manual options worked !!!!

    Cheers

That is a good link, gives the file formats the 3 applications in the suite can work with and also some formats it can't work with.
