Actually, you can have it both ways, Maranna. Here's a link to the choices you have.

Since I have a desktop, two laptops and a tablet, I have Office 365 ProPlus (Business), but if I didn't go that route, the subscription to Home (basically the same as home and student) would suffice.

Forgot the link: Buy and Compare Microsoft Office Products | Office

Sounds about right. I paid €109 for Office 2010 Home and Student in 2011.

It lasts for ever (not just one year) and can be installed on up to 3 separate devices at the same time. It doesn't include Outlook though - just Work, Excel, Powerpoint. If you want the Outlook program you need the (more expensive) Professional version (again a one off charge) or get the Office 365 annual subscription.

    >>I never used Outlook; is it MS's writer somewhat like word but is also a desktop client?
How much does it cost in US dollars to get Outlook too? I do not like online suites and programs so I hope it is not that. Do you get the annual subscription for ?$ and Outlook is included along with the home & student version?

Incidentally, for the last 15 or so years I have noticed most of my forums etc are from the UK. Do I have my pc defaulted that way or is it just a coincidence?

It is an email client so you can read your emails when not connected to internet. It also manages your calendar, contacts etc.

Office 2016 Professional is $399 (one time payment). Office Professional 2016

    Office 365 subscription is $100 a year (5 users) or $70 a year (1 user)

Office 2010 you can't get any more. You can get an old key off ebay pretty cheap but no guarantee if it is genuine - see Microsoft Office 2010 Professional | eBay

The home and student edition doesn't include Outlook.

Coincidence I think. Or perhaps people from the UK like running forums - who knows :) Tenforums (and Sevenforums and Eightforums) are UK sites though certainly but I don't think the majority of users are from UK (not that I've counted to be honest).

Microsoft Outlook is available stand-alone, without all the other features of the Office suite. Have seen it priced at $109 to $149 US on the Internet. As for LibreOffice, one doesn't have to uninstall Microsoft Office to use it, just need to change the Default Programs settings as desired. I have both suites on computers, only downside to LibreOffice is that QuickBooks will not work with it, tied into Microsoft's Word and Excel.

Finally, Thank you for all the information. I would love to have Outlook as my client but it is expensive, for me. I am not in business and long retired.
I use Windows 10 mail but forward anything sensitive to my ISP account as the folders in Windows 10 mail are not as reliable as the ISP. It is too late and too much work to make the ISP my main account as my MS account is in all my locations like forums and doctors etc. I just use it to see if I have mail in one of my 3 accounts.
As for Word, I will use 2010 till 2020 and if I am still typing, will buy Home and Student. As I said all my questions have been kindy clarified.
    Thank you
