    Sorry, but it looks like I was wrong. Office 2010 Home and Student ended in 2012.

    Yes, but that's the original version as first released. If that was updated with Service Pack 1 support extended to 10/14/2014, and if then updated to Service Pack 2 there's extended support until 10/13/2020.

    @Bree

    Hmm. First time wrong this year and the day isn't over.

    I had an original post I deleted that stated it was covered, but looked again and thought it wasn't. So the Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 2 covers all editions then? Rather confusing there IMO.

    It's the same for Office as it is for Windows. Once a 'service pack' is issued it becomes the supported edition. Windows 7 is out of support, but Windows 7 SP1 is still supported. Likewise, Windows 8 is no longer supported because 8.1 replaced it.

    Service packs are freely available, so anyone with any edition of Office 2010 can update to the latest service pack to continue to receive extended support.

    I see. Thanks for the explanation. Easy to understand that way.

    You can, Maranna. It costs $149 for the current version; Buy and Compare Microsoft Office Products | Office

    However, Bree has explained support for Office 2010 through 2020, so you may want to stick with that.

    For me, it would depend on whether I needed the advanced features of Office 2016 or not.

    If my Microsoft home and student 2010 is still supported I will stick with it I was concerned about security but now that I know it is supported I will not migrate to LibreOffice I can't see paying 149 for office if I only use word occasionally I think everything is going to be by the year and buy subscription soon

    You may already have had service pack 2 installed through Windows Update. To find out, look at the version number in one of your Office apps.

    Microsoft Support said:
    On the File tab, click Help. You will see the version information in the About Microsoft <ApplicationName> section....
    • The version number of Office 2010 SP2 is greater than or equal to 14.0.7015.1000.
    • The version number of Office 2010 SP1 is greater than or equal to 14.0.6029.1000 but less than 14.0.7015.1000.
    • The version number of the original RTM release of Office 2010 (that is, with no service pack) is greater than or equal to 14.0.4763.1000 but less than 14.0.6029.1000.

    If you haven't got Service Pack 2 yet, the above article has download links to get it.
