    version 1709 installed


    version 1709 installed and Microsoft wants wordpad to be default, I have apache office which Microsoft is ignoring, it has tried 3 times to be default but winpatrol stops it, how do I get Microsoft to stop asking

    Sounds like Winpatrol [third-party software] is the problem in its stopping of programs. If Apache's OpenOffice is fully functional you should be able to set its Defaults to handle the file formats you desire that are on its list. In Settings, Apps you can set default programs. WordPad comes with Windows, back in Win3.x days it was called Write, the file write.exe still exists in Win10's Windows Folder but simply calls up WordPad.

    Turn off Winpatrol and then make your changes. Reboot. Then turn Winpatrol back on.
