I would reserve AT LEAST 20 GB for installation. I think many people are trying to upgrade with less (especially on SSDs) and having problems.

I mean, it has to download 4 GB, explode that 4 GB to 8 GB and also backup your current Windows folder (probably around 8-12 GB). You need enough space to be able to do all that. It's too bad Microsoft doesn't tell you upfront that you don't have enough space, it seems like a very easy calculation.

Today I got message ready to upgrade to Windows 10 in my windows update.
    I started update.
It checked, downloaded, prepared, accepted TAO, then rebooted and finally started installing. As I was happy, I was not near the machine. But when I came to tab, I found, it has rebooted to windows 8.1. I could get the setuperror.log from ~Windows.BT folder.

What to do now? DV8P is left as it was left after installation failure.

For those who have upgraded successfully to W10, is the Stylus working?
Any remarks on Performance of Stylus?
Any remarks on Touch in general?

    1. Freed up as much space as I could
    2. Deleted the 5 GB recovery partition and added the free space to C to have some extra free space
    3. **Made a USB backup of recovery partition before deleting it
    4. have a little over 16 GB free in C before starting the upgrade
    5. upgrade went fine, no problems
    6. Didn't had to disable anything, just upgraded as it was
    7. After upgrade have about 12 GB free
    8. All is working almost like before, no improvement in touch, still sometimes types/ click multiple times when touching only once
    9. Stylus works just as before not any considerable difference, neither in good nor in bad way.
    10. No considerable performance difference, but I don't do heavy stuff on DV8P anyway. But really felt no slowness as usual after upgrade.

For all those who are having problems upgrading, try having about 16 GB free space before going for upgrade, 16 is also stated by MS for 32 Bit Windows 10. I am not saying less than 16 GB wont work but 16 GB or around is just better.

I had 36 GB free space. Windows update informed that upgrade is ready.
In spite of these, My upgrade failed. Previously I tried directly from media creation tool, then with usb stick after reset. There also failed. I decided to wait from windows update. That also failed now. I am at loss to understand what to do?

I successfully updated my homebuilt desktop from Win 8.1 and my HP laptop from Win 7 with absolutely no issues. I spent an entire day of frustration trying unsuccessfully to update my DV8P. I tried every suggestion I found on the web to no avail. My only suggestion to you is to start from scratch as I did. I downloaded a fresh copy of Win 8.1 home 32 bit to a USB. I then did a clean install of it, deleting all existing partitions. To do this you must have a powered USB hub (available for under $10 on Amazon) to be able to connect a USB mouse and keyboard as will as the USB stick. This is because touch is not functional when initially booting from the 8.1 USB. The 8.1 activated without having to enter a key. If you need to download any drivers such as WAN drivers you can get them from the Dell website using a different computer and then installing them on your DV8P. As a safety measure I would advise capturing your current product key using Belarc or a similar product before doing the clean install of Win 8.1. After installing Win 8.1 and insuring that it was activated, I did the Win 10 upgrade using the USB method. It ran without issue and activated. While not necessary, I then did a clean install of Win 10. I did need to find and install the WAN/Bluetooth and the chipset drivers from the Dell website. After loading the drivers, all devices (Bluetooth, touch, camera, sound, etc.) are fully functional. During the install, I did not enter any product key. I skipped it each time it was requested. It activated immediately as soon as I had internet access. I did this clean install to insure maximum disk free space. I have a 32 GB tablet. After installing Norton Security and Office 2013, I still had 17.9 GB free. If your DV8P came with Office 2013, you will need to reinstall it using the product key that came with the original packaging.

On 29th, I installed win 10 on two Dell Venue 8 Pro tablets (3845, 5830). It was a pain for the 3845.

Get yourself a female usb to micro usb adapter , a 4GB usb thumb drive, a 16GB micro sdcard
WARNING!! DO NOT let the tablet go to sleep during the upgrade! Make sure battery is fully charged
Adapter required to connect USB devices to DVP8 (approx. $5)
    Dell Venue 8 Pro - Windows 10 Installation failed-download.jpg

Save backup to external HDD ( I created a powered "Y" cable using a regular USB cable, and USB extender cable, but you can buy a USB Y cable , or go get yourself a powered USB hub for like $30 from Bestbuy). With the powered Y cable, I can use a regular USB travel hub. For those who don't want to attempt this, go get a powered USB travel hub.

Powered USB Y cable (free: requires a usb cable, and a USB extension cable...2 MALE x 1 FEMALE)
Make Your Own USB-Y Cable - YouTube
(note- Video is for making a Y cable with 2 FEMALE, and 1 MALE, simply reverse it. Wire MALE end of cut regular USB cable (black cable as shown below) wire both RED and BLACK power wires together only)
    Dell Venue 8 Pro - Windows 10 Installation failed-y-cable.jpg
    Dell Venue 8 Pro - Windows 10 Installation failed-cbl.jpg

No issues at with the upgrade for the DVP8 5830. Didn't have to reinstall anything, including office, or Antivirus (Bitdefender).

Backup win 8.1 with pc image, and be sure to create the 8.1 recovery drive (There was a 3845 bug I reported where if you try to recover windows using the created win 10 recovery drive, it jumps to 75%, then fails, and corrupts windows and the RE, and you will have to reinstall win 8.1, and go through the upgrade again. If you try to boot into the media thumbdrive, it will install 10 without the necessary touch drivers, so upgrade from 8.1 is the only route. This may have been fixed though)

First, I downloaded the media and used it for both, and create a usb thumbdrive
    Windows 10

Get yourself at least an 16gb micro sdcard, and put it in tablet

Connect thumbdrive, navigate to the drive, and run it.

On the 3845, installation failed everytime untill I selected "save nothing". It wasnt a big deal for me as I kept everything on on sdcard in 8.1, and changed all the folders like downloads, and music, and documents, etc to go directly to the 64gb sdcard. I even added it as a drive so I could directly install to it, and run programs off it (path: C:/Sdcard/Programs).

Touch seems ok and the stylus is working as it should. As I recall touch was working during my Win10 upgrade. I haven't noticed any loss in response/functionality. Others have nicely described how they managed to install/upgrade to Win10. Me, I did the upgrade (not a clean install) after doing a second download with Media Creation Tool (the first download and install failed) and selecting an add-on memory card to gain needed space. I haven't yet removed/replaced the card - I may just copy over the Win8 restore files to another computer and keep using the same card. All this is on a DV8P 5830. Win10 has been activated.

I am trying to upgrade from 3rd Aug. Still Not succeeded. See my failure below.
    Dell Venue 8 Pro - Windows 10 Installation failed-dv8pfailedupdatehistory.png
First I tried with upgrade directly from media creation tool, then with USB.
Then I did reset my DV8P. Then also tried all methods direct upgrade and USB.
Then I got message from GWX. Then I tried direct from that place. Then also finally it failed after message that reboot will take place in a few minutes after windows 10 installing message.
Then I again reset. Today I got GWX message again. Today also it failed.
Then again I reset today with langauage en_us and region USA and started installation from USB stick. I opted only windows, no personal files option also today. Still after windows 10 installing and ready to reboot in a few minutes, I got message windows 10 installation failed. I am at loss to understand why after installation failure occurs and how to upgrade successfully.
