Is the "Upgrade" a good thing to get?

Different thought: In previous versions of Windows, service packs only update system files but retain system and user configuration, so once installed and configured OS can survive ten years or more without problems. Windows 10 releases deliberately change system behavior by changing many OS parameters, installing inappropriate and unstable device drivers, inconsiderately uninstalling needed programs and ruining user personal and privacy settings. There is no reason to force regular users to test betaversion of OS every six months but it is exactly what M$ does. So some users prefer to stay at old release as long as possible; they use wushowhide tool to block unneeded newer releases.

Get your W10 fully updated and you won't have anymore issues. I don't, a lot of others don't, so neither should you :)

It's rather ironic, because I just came back to this thread now that I just got down installing the upgrade, and I'm sorry to say that I'm now having plenty of issues already. My settings have been changed, and programs are missing that I now have to replace. One of them is Ccleaner. So I downloaded it again. Then I clicked on the set up tool and my computer completely froze up. I had to disconnect the power and start all over.

Also, Chrome isn't working the way it used to. I click on something, and then the computer pauses for awhile and then goes right back to where I was previously rather than take me to the destination I clicked on. Then I have to click it again and then sometimes it will work. Some of my default programs were also changed.

I didn't have these problems before "upgrading" and I'm already regretting doing so. I don't see advantages. All I have now are new problems to solve.

After an upgrade like this, you have 10 days in which you can go back to your previous version. Do not delete windows.old if you think you may want to take this option.

But why am I even having problems? AddRAM said he has this update and isn't having problems. I don't understand why some computers work fine and others don't even though the program/update is exactly the same.

Well, my update was about a month ago. How long ago was the last Win10 version released? I'd like to know so I'll know when to look for "fix-it" updates rather than a new version.

The latest Feature Update is the Fall Creators Update (version 1709) which was released on 17th October. A new version of Windows 10 will be released every six months from now on. The next major update (1803?) is due out in April.

The 'fix-it' updates are the Cumulative Updates (a cumulative update includes all previous updates, so you only need the latest one). These are routinely released on the second Tuesday of each month (aka 'Patch Tuesday') though sometimes additional update are released early if there's an urgent 'fix'. Windows Update should automatically check for and install these updates.

Cumulative updates are specific to a particular version (1709, 1703, 1607, etc.). The monthly CUs for all supported versions are released simultaneously. You can see the release history for all versions here.

Hey Delly sorry you are having problems and hope you get it all sorted out.....One thing I disagree with is when people think win 8/8.1 was a bad OS.....To me win 8.1 was the best OS I have used to date and if MS had given me the option of having win 8.1 or win 10 for life I would have chosen win 8.1 instead of win 10.

As far as all the OS since XP I have used them all except Vista.....Here is how I rate them......
XP.........Great in its simplicity as to what it could do....Used it at work & home for 24 years.
Vista.......Have never used it.
Win 7.....Pretty good stable OS......Also used it at work for several years.
Win 8/8.1......The best one I have used to date....Used this on 2 PC's at home since its inception.
Win 10....A good OS and hopefully MS will stay on top of things and listen to what the consumer wants(This would be a first)

And finally I sure see a lot of people having problems with Win 10 but for me personally I have never had one problem with Win 10 since I upgraded to it since day one.....No matter what version or updates.
