Manually Downgrade to Windows 7 from Windows 10 Upgrade
All sorts of trouble started happening to this PC.
I put in a drive to do a clone, it had an old win7 on it. Win10 refused to boot, then said it had a drive status power issue, collected data shut down restart, win10 took forever to finally show the desktop, claimed it was fixing c: drive.
I have this TV program sichbopvr, when it came on it had lost all its configurations.
Ok, so win10 was finally up. I installed Macrium. I did a clone. The clone got to 99% and it failed with an error could not read file or something, no permissions. Then suddenly the desktop says windows is not activated.
I ran the activation troubleshooter, claimed there was a digital license for the version of win10 pro on the machine but it did not match my user account or something.
Well I gave up. I just told it to go back to win7, which was activated before all this weirdness.
Well the go back option is not working. I go back to look at it, it had booted the recovery drive.
I went to troubleshoot, recovery, go back to earlier OS, and it says it cant. So I lost it all!
Now I have to reinstall win7 maybe from scratch. Really mad about this, all these wasted days.
Weirdness, totally stupid dumb stuff is happening.

this error makes no sense does it? win10 pro is installed
the only hardware change was thehard drive and win10 blw up on that with error driver power status failure and i recall it saying had to repair windows and it lost all my configuarations
Use bootable media to:
1. rename/delete the win10 os folders.
2. copy/move the contents of Windows.old onto the partition.
May be worth trying that.
I think ultimately the way forward is a complete wipe out it all and reinstall fresh win7 pro. Make sure it is activated. Then clone it.
Then do the free win10 upgrade just to have it as a freebie. But just run win7 for the WMC.
win10 upgrade is still available if you use assitance technology till dec 31 this year.
Can I dual boot win7 with win10 or will the activation blow up again?
My win7 was activated, so I dont know what happened. I am trying a PC reset now.
These instructions need a little more clarity
You rename windows and recovery in the current windows folder, not those in the windows.old folder.
1. From MiniXP Enviroment open Windows Explorer and navigate to partition where Windows.old folder is stored.
2. You will rename Windows folder to Windows.bak and rename Recovery folder to Recovery.bak.
3. Copy or move Windows folder and Recovery folder from within Windows.old folder to the root of the Windows installed partition, basically you are replacing Windows.bak and Recovery.bak folders you have renamed.
4. Replace the NTUSER.DAT file located at \Users\UserName folder with the NTUSER.DAT file stored within \Windows.old\Users\UserName\ folder.
