I got 16299.19 directly by updating via MCT

I have a laptop updated from 1703 to 1709 on Oct 17th. When done it was build 16299.15. Then Windows Update gave me KB4043961 which brought the build to 16299.19.

Today, Oct 19th, I needed to update my Surface Pro1 which was running 1703 version.
Windows Update took forever downloading. Got pissed off.
I decided to use MCT instead.
I used the Update Now option and proceeded the updating.
When installation was completed, I was surprised to see 16299.19 instead of 16299.15.

I thought MCT was to give the "base" version 16299.15.
    So, what's the deal ?

*** adding : system protection was turned off on 16299.19. Re-configure required. ***

By using the Update Now it should check for updates and install them during the upgrade.

If you use the MCT to 'make media for another PC' on USB or ISO it is 16299.15 media that will be made. Running the install from that media you can choose to check for updates or not. I didn't, and got the .19 update afterwards through Windows update.

Half way through the install, it says checking for updates.

Yes, I don't know why because I'd unticked that. Perhaps it was saying 'this is when I'll look for updates - oh, so you don't want me to' and skips it. :)

As far as I can tell, it only skips looking for updates now if you do not connect to internet.

    I just downloaded the mct.

    The products.xml lists 16299.15 versions only. Example - en-US x64 client versions:

If you just simply run the Update Now option, you will get 16299.19 when installation is completed.
If you download the iso file > mount the iso > run setup.exe, you will get 16299.15

Correct me if I misunderstood your post.

    Correct.

    MCT is for 16299.15.

When you update now with MCT, it is still for 16299.15, but the "Checking for updates" process will update it to 16299.19 during the installation.
