    Windows 10 v1607 Pro 64 bit

    Hi Bree,

    Yes! I tried that, Bree.
I used the .iso file Installation Optical Disc that worked with Anniversary Update and Creators. It gets into Creators but when I ask it to take the new Feature update it fails:

The Windows Fall Creators Update installs OK on my W10 Pro 64-bit PCs - with the exception that hibernation and Start Menu are trashed.

I've had a try with the Windows 10 Pro 32-bit PCs last night. That's with the old optical medium that worked in the past, the Dell GX620 installs a clean version (new partitions not an upgrade) up to "Hi - Glad you are there". That is up to Creators v 1703 all OK ... it's the "Features update to Windows 10 version 1709" that fail as: "Failed to install on 30/11/2017". I've been through the routine, Bree. cmd "net stop ... etcetera for Windows Update, BITS, Cryptographic Services, work done; Firewall off done; gpedit.msi work done; disk maintenance done, anti virus off done; spartan clean installation done. It's not this end, I am certain...it's Microsoft at it again. The "Check for Updates" reveals that the PC is constantly trying to re-download the Features update. There are going to be big broadband bills come Christmas. I left a post on "superuser.com" as well.

ApoplexyStaging... Nurse! I will take my drugs in the seat by the window... next to Frank... he goes blue if you mention AppxStaging.. Oh! oh! Nurse! Crash cart for Frank......

Yes, the "Features update to Windows 10 version 1709" fails - but I didn't suggest you checked for updates. I suggested you download the 32-bit ISO for 1709 and use it to perform a manual upgrade. Doing so will either work (result!) or fail with a meaningful error code that will enable diagnosis. Neither the upgrade assistant or upgrading through widows update give as useful an error code.

    Thanks Bree.

I know what you are suggesting. I need to locate an ISO for the 32-bit 1709. I'm head scratching that one at the moment. The 64-bit version may also need that work: I am getting hibernation breaking and it has an event log "The beta feature EseDisk,Consistency is enabled in ESENT due to beta site mode setting 0x8000000"

There is mention in answers.microsoft ....

After the fall creators update, i am getting a new information event - Microsoft Community

    @SimonFastEddy

You can use the Media Creation Tool Download Windows 10 to create a 32-bit or 64-bit ISO by choosing the correct options. Uncheck "use Recommended" and pick your version.

    Hi f14tomcat,

It was busy with AppxStaging early in the year; I did a bit with LibreOffice on slow scrolling and it's taking off again.

To reinforce what f14tomcat said, I got the MCT to create the bootable USB drive on 16GB. I used the third choice of both versions at once which is why I used the 16GB instead of the 8GB [4GB drive insufficient]. I also used Settings, Update and Security and the Learn More to get the x64 and x86 version of the Build updates stored on the same drive, nice and portable especially when dealing with slower Internet services. I can either boot to the USB or if in Windows can run/double-click the setup.exe file from File Explorer. I've used it on several computers over the last couple of weeks. A caveat: creating the USB drive will wipe it clean in the formatting process.

    Hello Berton,
I must have a go at your USB method...I have a spare unused SanDisk Cruzer Blade 16 GB USB Flash Drive to hand.
Have you tried Bree's 32 bit 1709 ISO file?
Lights are going on, all over Europe (hibernate waking up).
Just about to do Bree's test.

    See you later. SimonFastEddy

    Thank you everybody from SimonFastEddy,

    Hello Bree,
I took your message and installed an (.iso) for Windows 10 Pro 32-bit v 1709 (build 16299-15) from the download site at: Windowsiso.net

It installed OK and is running OK.

    Problem solved.

I will do the same for my other (64-bit) PCs tomorrow. It might end the frustrating problem of hibernating ending at random.

Kind regards to Berton and 14tomcat for advice which I will accept. Just to clarify: Berton, do you use the USB in NTFS (I am Windows only not MAC) for holding your (.iso) files? I ask because I have a SanDisk Cruzer Blade 16 GB in NTFS that is running at the moment and I can use that instead of starting a new one. It is in ReadyBoost but that is a bit of a non-performer.

    From Simon.

Yes, a manual upgrade often works where windows update or the upgrade assistant fails. I would have preferred you to get the .iso direct from Microsoft rather than trust a third party site. You can download the MCT from Microsoft and use that to make the .iso.

    Hi Bree,
Yes... I will do a repeat with an .iso from Microsoft. I was in a rush yesterday: it takes all night and I have an idea the hibernate breaking is also linked. Lots to do. Thank you for the download link... I just couldn't find the Microsoft link and I forgot to bookmark it. The 3rd-party download was 3.2 GB and it fitted the 4.7 GB DVD. I have an idea the new MCTs are now over 4.7 GB. I may be able to use my original MCT ... I will give it a go.

The third-party download worked but the burn to disc does give an error code 0x800004005 which is indicating that a file is missing that would normally check the computer for a license. So that's how it is done.

So the principal is proved; I just need to tidy things up a bit.

What would we do without YOooooo. A brief respite from the library books and TdF stories.
