Updating to latest Insider Build just puts me to the login screen

    Updating to latest Insider Build just puts me to the login screen


    The past 3 times I have tried to update to the latest Insider build, 2 of them by Windows Update and 1 of them by ISO. Whenever it tells me to restart and I do, it then brings me to my login screen without updating. I am currently on Windows Insider Build 16299

    When I login I get a message at the bottom of my screen, saying "We couldn't finish installing updates. Select this message to learn more"
    When I then go to Settings -> Update and Security -> Windows Update, I see "We can't install some updates because other updates are in progress. Restarting your computer may help".

    I am not sure what to do in this situation. Been 3 times trying over a period of 2 days. Still stuck on build 16299.

    I might suggest you follow this tutorial to reset Windows Update.

    Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

    In the inplace repair / upgrade process it suggests disable "Secure Boot" and "Fast Boot" in the BIOS. I would follow that advice here.
