Hi, can I still get a free upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 please?

    Thanks!

The free upgrade is still available.

You can use this process. Have your data backed up off machine just in case. I would also recommend using Macrium Reflect to create an image so you have a way back.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

You can also create a recovery drive in Win 8.1 so you have 8.1 bootable media.

    Hi,
Yes all you would need to do is create an off line account "if you don't want to use a MS account" then after landing on your desktop use the 8.1 activation key
You can keep your 8.1 install if you want too it's the best recovery method keeping it on a different hdd or ssd intact.
Or system image it before upgrading from your 8.1 desktop with Macrium reflect free

"This extended availability is now coming to a close, as we’ll wrap this offer at the end of 2017. Please take advantage of this offer before it is retired at the end of this year!"

I upgraded last week from Windows 7 to Windows 10 FCU using a USB stick created by the Media Creation Tool. I used a MS account and the PC is shown as activated with a digital licence linked to my MS account. There was no need to enter an activation code or use the accessibility route since the standard route still works (at least it did last week).

Cool. Now make an Image with Macrium Reflect so if something goes bump your have an excellent restore point.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

Keep your key for bootable media.

Glad it worked so well for you. I learned about the free offer expiring. Something for everyone.
