Windows 10: Windows 10 Black Screen During Install

Also just a thought but most of your installations failed at 75% that means that the issue is in the application layer of the OSI model. It took all of you this long to figure out it was the graphics driver? Wow I joined an Amature forum. 😝 the reason it is application is because at 70% the windows 10 installer is setting the application settings. On top of that it's an OS installation. It's all application.

Same thing happened with my Dell Inspiron 14z. Please tell us anyone to resolve this problem.

    Hey guys,

I was installing windows 10 (8.1 before) on my Dell inspiron 15 7000 series (7537), and it progressed to restarting after the installing drivers step, but after the restart and going through the dell startup screen, everything went black. The HDD light is stuck on and not flickering like it normally does. There is no cursor or anything on the screen, it's just black. I waited for an hour and nothing changed, so I thought maybe it was frozen, so I restarted the computer via hard reset, which took it to a "attempting to recover update" screen, but after a few seconds on that screen it went immediately back to the black screen.
Its been about 30 min since that hard restart and its still black, HDD light still on, and nothing seems to be happening. Does anyone have any solutions to this???
    Thanks!

Formerly Win 7 with a struggle Win 10

Think the black screen problem on my HP TM2-1010EA notebook is also video related (ATI Radeon HD 4550 with HDMI out option). One install worked then screen started misbehaving then black again. Later found the screen image was now being fed through my HDMI port as could see it on a TV. But no mouse or cursor to use. The video output button to choose laptop or TV also didn't work.

I ended up without a working Win 7 or Win 10. Also the pre-install Product Key is also not accepted by Microsoft if try either a Win 7 or Win 10 download to create an ISO file.

The final solution for me, was creating a Windows Recovery DVD on another computer. Booting up on that. That allowed me to install my original complete system image I thankfully created first.

Staying clear of Win 10 upgrade (although would like to) again until what seems to be instability on some setups has been fixed.

    Hi

Think I have the same type of problem. Upgrading from Win 7 on an HP TM2 notebook ATI Radeon card, seemed to be going OK. After 4 hours with black screen, tried a reboot. Get past BIOS, Blue Windows logo and rotating circle, then a brief flashing cursor top left, then black screen. No mouse, but HD activity. Pulling power and rebooting get same thing.

CTR ALT DEL doesn't work, so in limbo.

Glad I did a full disc image backup in Win 7 now. If all else fails.

My last update: All problems are gone. Just update your BIOS to the last one (released by dell in June) and now you can update your nvidia graphics with no problems. I updated the bios, installed Win 8, then Win 10, last nvidia drivers, and everything run flawless right now.

THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH WINDOWS 10.

Below is a Microsoft Knoledge Base entry from April of this year.

    httpw://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3055414

"The lock screen in Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10061 might appear as a black screen with a mouse cursor
    Symptoms

When you sign out of Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10061 and return to the lock screen, you might see only a black screen with a responsive mouse cursor. Pressing the Alt+Tab keys or the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys has no visible effect.
    Workaround

If you are experiencing this issue, follow these steps to sign into Windows:

At the black screen, press the Ctrl key once on an attached physical keyboard. (You won’t see any visible change, but pressing the Ctrl key will place the cursor in the password box that you’re currently not able to see.)

Now type the password of the user that just signed out and press Enter. This will sign you back into Windows and the desktop will appear.

If you failed to sign in because you mistyped the password, press Enter once more. Then retype the password and press Enter." ...

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE INSTALLING WINDOWS 10. AFTER ENTERING YOUR PASSWORD, THE CURSOR SHOULD VANISH FOR SEVERAL MINUTES WHILE WINDOWS COMPLETES THE INSTALL SETUP. MY COMPUTER, A FAST ALIENWARE, TOOK ABOUT FIVE MINUTES TO COMPLETE THE SETUP AND THEN THE WINDOWS 10 DESKTOP APPEARED.

I wonder if this is the dual screen problem. Try this:

When you get the blkack screen, wait 5 minutes or so then press Winkey + P. That normally brings up the Project flyin on the right side of the screen:

Press the down arrow twice then press Enter.
If that doesn't show anything, repeat but press the down arrow three times then Enter.

I tried that but it didn't work.

UPDATE: I forced shutdown and restarted the computer which led to the computer restoring to the previous version of windows. I spoke to someone from Microsoft and they said to try several things but it may be due to one or more of your drivers needing an update.
