If it can't boot from USB, I apologize for the suggestion.
Post #5 suggests that the machine has two 2GB DIMMs installed. Is that correct? I wonder whether that is an approved configuration. I have the impression from a quick web search that the largest officially supported DIMMs are 1GB, and that you'd need 4 to max out the RAM. (No, I'm not suggesting buying 4 X 1GB DDR2, although I could do that for $20 in the US.)
