Hey i have the same PC try the solution I wrote above
I did it on a single monitor and it works perfectly. Give it 5-10 minutes after you press enter dont click anything and its good to go. Also while it loads, the cursor disappears, dont worry. Thanks!

    Thank you! :)

Yes! This worked for me & I assume your reasoning is correct. I am using a KVM, and also separately Synergy, and this may be the reason also.

In fact, I did not even have to log in. I pressed windows button plus P and the left arrow key once then enter.
glad i could be of help. It seems like Win10 is detecting a third monitor (WTF) on my dual monitor setup so try to fiddle with that around, maybe you can get it to work normally with 2 screens

I spoke too soon. My desktop loads, but i cant access my stuff. Its all there, it just doesnt appear when i click it, i can only hover to see their start screens. I tried restarting, but it doesnt work. I need to access my geforce experience, as i think nvidia is the problem, but i cant accept the "Do you want nvidia to access your hard drive?" messages. Any advice?

hmmm did u check that u have Primary monitor only? because like I said it detected another monitor in my case for no reason and put all my programs there. If that doesn't work then idk

I think in most cases the solution is quite simple:

Many PCs have the option to enable the CPUs discrete graphics option. As a result, if enabled, Windows 10 will both detect that gfx option and install the Intel VGA software for it automatically. Clearly it presumes that if this is enabled, it's the primary monitor.

The fix lies in the Bios settings. Find the one where you have the option to enable CPU graphics, and turn it off. Then boot your PC.
Windows 10 will complain, and you might have to reboot, but after that things should work fine.

    Good luck!

Hello everyone, I've been lurking this thread today because I was having the same issue. I finally got my pc up and running with Windows 10 and wanted to let you all know how I did it.

I booted my computer into bios by mashing f8 after post. My bios had a section for graphics settings I clicked that option then turned support for multi monitor off. Saved the changes and exited my bios.

Since this is my first post if you have any questions I'll try and get them answered. I'm running a Asus g20

After successfully installing Win 10 on my HP laptop earlier today, my husband called from work and asked if I could start the install on his AlienWare desktop. Installation started somewhat normally but then quickly devolved to the black screen. It sat there for about 3 hours until I decided to try to just turn off the PC. When it booted back up it went directly back to the black screen. After rebooting a few more times I finally turned it on SafeMode.

Resetting while keeping personal files failed so hubby gave me permission to reset completely (factory settings). It's currently resetting his PC. Hopefully black screen of death is gone. I'll update once the reset is done.

    Solution

I also have an Alienware X51 which seems to be a common theme on this thread. Also went through the Windows 10 upgrade to reboot to infinite black screen without cursor. I can confirm this is indeed a video issue which can be resolved IF you have a Windows 8.1 boot DVD or USB. I hit F12 to boot from my 8.1 USB drive and I was able to go to troubleshoot Windows Diagnostics Tools. You will be presented with a screen with a bunch of options like the control panel. Go to Computer Management and then Devices (or Drivers) you will see that the integrated Intel graphics is startup type "Automatic", switch to disabled. Then go to your dedicated graphics driver (i have a GTX 970 so it was an Nvidia driver) and turn that from "Manual" to "Automatic". The mini ITX motherboard that the X51 has doesn't have a video out so you would have been able just to plug in from that to fix it.
