I got the black screen with no cursor (left the house at 15%, got back to this)
I had been out a couple of hours, no disk activity etc
held power and restarted, it said recovering installation, rebooted itself and within 2 minutes was back at black screen
held power and then turned back on, it restored itself to Windows 8.1

once loaded it downloaded all of Windows 10 again, I then told it to install again, went to work, wife tells me it's on a black screen again, no activity, nothing will wake it up

Dell laptop, 2 years old (new to me) updating from Win 8.1

At least you could sign in mate, my latest development consists of that round blue spinning wheel thing appearing next to my cursor for 2 seconds.

Yes I'm still having the same issue and regretting not backing up

I appear to have an identical problem. Computer idle, no hdd activity. Black screen no cursor.

EDIT: got fed up with waiting, its been like this for a couple of hours now. It appears to have 'recovered the installation' sitting at 75% and says it is configuring settings 1%. Will wait and see what happens now.
what did you do when u 'got fed up'? reset, or ctrl-alt-del, or power off/on, or something else?

wife's machine is stuck in the same spot. with '99' shown in the lower right corner of the screen

powered off and back on, picked up where it left off.. so, the warm reboot step didn't complete

Hi guys, I was able to install W10 from a bootable USB and am running it now, however when I had to restart my comp due to updating drivers it was back to the same frikking black screen. I had to install it all over again and now I'm seriously afraid to even shutdown my computer

Sorry, only just thought to check the thread again. Just to repeat my problem was black screen lacking a cursor.

whe i got fed-up i held my power button down until the computer switched off, oddly enough my pc lacks a reset button.

left it off for a couple o seconds and then switched it back on. It recovered at 70-odd percent complete showing the update percentage screen and finished the install. Went through the setup. Now running win 10 and its been through a couple of reset cycles for other purposes. Played a game for a couple of hours and the computer appears stable currently.

im using windows 7 and have downloaded the windows 10 upgrade. I got to about 80% of it complete and now it's just on a blank black screen but you can tell it's still on. Been like this for about 15 minutes. Is this normal and is there any problems if I switch the computer off?
    I appreciate any help :)

I've noticed what the problem was for me with windows 7 its the drivers of the intel HD and nvidia's colliding now I fixed it on windows 7 where I disabled the intel graphics but I am guessing when I try to install 10 at a point in time it enables them again. Anyone have any idea on how to get around this. I was thinking of enabling the intel drivers again switching my hdmi to the motherboard and doing the install and than switching them again after but that's alot of reboots and work so I am wondering if anyone else figured this out.
