how to upgrade to windows 10 without windows update?

windows 8.1 key doesn't work with 10 you only need to upgrade for the first time from windows update then 10 will be activated

You can use this to find your key if you want to double check it:
ProduKey - Recover lost product key (CD-Key) of Windows/MS-Office/SQL Server

I did the download (Windows 10) to a USB - then booted using the USB drive. I was then asked to install, not upgrade. A window popped up asking for my key. I typed it in & it said it wasn't a valid key. What now? I'm upgrading from Win7 64 to Win10 64

a lot of sites and people say you need to upgrade first or having windows 10 key , windows 8.1 key will not work

you need to upgrade the pc first then u can use the iso on usb. if i can just get the iso on usb then use my win7/8 key then i would've done it already

Nope, doesn't work! Like others here, just rejects the Win 7 key. Could it be something to do with downloading W10 Pro and trying to upgrade a W7 Home Premium?
