Reinstall win 10 to get rid of HP software

HP HP Pavilion Desktop PC 570-pOXX.
Windows 10 Home (X64) Version 1703 (build 15063.483)

As discussed in previous posts My Win10 does not have dvr burner - Windows 10 Forums I'm having trouble with my new HP Pavilion. It's kinky, will not boot from dvd or usb, does not react to keyboard switches at bootup, and will not burn to dvd. I have lots of good backup of all my programs and settings and am considering cold installation of windows.

I believe the hardware is ok. It's the software thats screwed up. So i have a 2-year old usb of Win 10 ( legitimate) and am thinking of installing it from scratch. As I mentioned, I can't boot from usb -- but I can run the install from within windows. A trial run showed that I could not install and keep my data, I can only install cold.

Is this a reasonable thing to do? Or am I likely to end up with a $400 boat anchor?

It can be done as I have done this but on a small 32g HP. But have you tried to restore from the recovery? I didn't read the whole other thread. You may not need all the hp ware but I would restore first and see if that helps. You may need to dl windows on another pc and and create a flash drive with 10 on it if something is corrupt.

I'm glad your experience was good. As I said, I cannot restore from the recovery usb because I can't boot it. Besides, I suspect that a recovered bad system will still be bad.

Did you delete the recovery partitions that were already on the pc?

OK so if you want to keep the pc from using the HP software during the install then you should delete the large Recovery partition then install from a usb flash drive a fresh copy of windows, But understand that there might be a driver needed you may have to hunt down. If there are 2 recovery partitions only delete the large one. The small recovery will allow you to access a command prompt then install from usb.

Create a small new partition on hdd eg 6GB.


Format it as Fat32 and assign drive letter.
Download w10 iso, mount as drive, copy files to new partition.

Add boot entry using easybcd

Reboot, select Windows installer and install.

If you can't use the keyboard to get into BIOS/UEFI at power-on to enter either setup or the boot menu, then you have problems with the computer that a clean install of Windows will not fix.

One thing to check is that the keyboard is plugged into a black USB 2.0 port and not a blue USB 3.0 port. Some computers will not support the USB 3.0 ports until a driver is loaded with the OS.
