Hi, you could consider relocating folders, however some users manage to get themselves into great difficulty when doing this. (You can research relevant threads).

There is no guarantee that you can get 'Save as' to be be consistent- it's dependent on the implementation of the application.

It is an excellent idea to keep your user data off C: - whether on a separate partition on the system disk, or on a different physical disk.

I like to use junction points. Documents, for example: On you H: drive make a folder you want for your documents. Mine is H:\John\Documents. Move you Documents into the new folder, so your old documents under C:\Users is empty then in a Command Prompt (Admin) window:

    mklink /J C:\Users\John\Documents H:\John\Documents

Now the C:\Users\John\Documents folder will appear to operate just like it always did - but it is actually H:\John\Documents that is being physically used.

Post 2 contains all of the information you need. Be careful of moving all save locations in your user accounts from drive C: to your HDD since some users have reported problems when upgrading Windows. I would just relocate the largest user folders from the C: drive to the HDD i.e. Documents, Pictures, Videos & Music. Navigate to each of those folders on your C: drive, right click, select properties then go to the Location tab from where you can select Move to change the folder location. You need a backup strategy to backup your user files which will then be split between drive C: and your HDD.

My personal choice- on a single user PC- is to create my own folders on a separate disk or partition and make no changes to Windows default folders. Why? By default installed programs create many folders in Documents, Videos etc- so they don't just contain 'my' documents and files, but a load of stuff related to those programs including working space. I.e. a mess.

And you could also include new folders you create on a separate disk within Windows default libraries. Care needed with permissions on a multi-user PC.

That avoids any of the risks of relocating them.

(Note- I have relocated my Desktop- although I keep little on it, years ago I found it one place I was at risk of losing things if I had to reinstall Windows, or needed special action to recover data from).

Yep, just move the items from C to the storage drive, confirm they are there then delete them from C.
