Hi CountMike Tried through disk management but no luck and when I searched see others have had the same problem. When right clicking on partition just shows a small help button then goes to :- https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...c754936.aspxox which has no mention on how to delete a partition that I can see.

The unallocated space is wasted space on the drive. Not being used for anything. You can either extend your C: drive partition into that empty space, or create a new NTFS partition in it to hold data files like photos, downloads, music, etc.

Edith, NavyLCDR is right, if you want to complete your partitions in order to look well-arranged and utilized, you can try to right-click on C: and choose extend - this will merge your C: partition with the unallocated one. Just to mention for your information: in Disk Management you can do this only to a partition which is on the right of C:
Then you are all set. ;-)

It`s too small for a partition, not worth the effort, just extend C into it.

After that you could consider splitting C in half and use the other partition for data and even a disk image that will help you get out of a jam in the future.

Take your time and ask any questions you have, BEFORE you proceed, we are here to help :)

Using second partition on same physical drive to hold an image backup is ok as a stopgap but not recommended for long term integrity, as it does not protect against physical disk failure.

Of course it doesn`t, but it`s better then nothing.

Once he gets another drive then of course he can start using that for images, 1 step at a time.

    Update

Hi all and thank you. Did as suggested decreased the size of C which is quicker when defragging etc and will
have the unallocated to use if I need it. The mini partition tool is brilliant although I seem to have done things
back to front. However being a blonde, senior and Irish is expected lol.
Thank you all so much I so appreciate all the help. Just have to work out now how to sort out this creator upgrade which is so slow to boot and shut down. Taking twice as long as the Anniversary update!

No use for un-allocated partition, why don't you just make it a proper one with a letter ? For instance you could use it to store personal files so they are safe if you have a problem with windows.
