Updating windows to 1703, gives error 'missing operating system'

Recently I was trying to update my windows to 1703 (Windows feature update). When the update is in progress, machine restarted with error mentioning 'missing operating system'. I tried to repair windows with bootable usb drive. In Diskpart I got to know that C drive (windows is installed in this drive) format was changed to raw from ntfs. I tried rebuilding bcd. Nothing fixed. At that point I dont know that the issue was with the feature update 1703.

Finally what I did is, I formatted the whole C drive and installed windows 10. Again I tried updating to the feature update 1703. Now again the same issue 'missing operating system'. I don't know the reason. How to update my machine to upcoming windows updates?

    Thanks in Advance!!

    Win 10 Pro (1703)

Hi, hope you had disk images (e.g. via Macrium Reflect (free).

I formatted the whole C drive and installed windows 10. Again I tried updating to the feature update 1703.
    - This suggests you installed 1607 (the Anniversary edition) then upgraded.
If so, why not simply download the 1703 iso and use that?

I would also suggest it's worth you checking your disk - e.g. Hard Disk Sentinel (trial).

    Thank you dalchina!

Unfortunately I don't have disk images. All my data in C drive are gone.

This suggests you installed 1607 (the Anniversary edition) then upgraded.

Yeah as you said my next step is to install 1703 iso. But my doubt is, why I couldn't update directly?. Any issue with my hard disk?
