Lenovo Thinkpad T420 clean install after upgrade.

Just purchased a refurbished T420 with win 10 pro updated from win 7 pro, am wanting to do a clean install.
Anyone running a T420 on win 10 would appreciate any advice.
my only concern is obtaining correct drivers or will windows install them.

In general Windows looks up drivers from an evolving database and provides them.

Occasionally the driver version is inappropriate; much less frequently a driver might not be found.

If all drivers are found without problems, do nothing more about driver maintenance.
We (almost never) recommend the use of driver scanner tools.

Note the Win 10 version on your PC may not be the newest major build; if so the iso you download may be newer, and might give rise to new issues.

    (Check your version number with
    Windows key + X, winver)

Export the existing drivers before you do the clean install. On a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB free space, create a folder called Drivers - or whatever you want. Let's say the USB flash drive has drive letter F:

In a Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) run:
    dism /online /export-driver /destination:F:\Drivers

The path in red will be to the external storage folder you create to hold the exported drivers. It can be on a NAS, second hard drive, or USB flash drive. You can even create this folder on the same USB flash drive you are using to install Windows with - if it has enough free space.

After the clean install, if you do need to re-install any drivers that Windows does not do automatically, then just manually install them from the Drivers folder you exported to.

One more thing to consider: Lenovo does a good job of supporting its PCs through its support pages. They have a utility called System Update 5 that you can grab from the support pages for your T420 model. Once installed, it will tell you if Lenovo thinks you need any drivers. They don't always move as quickly to recognize updates as they could, but they do a pretty good job of lagging somewhat behind the leading edge...

PS: here's what the utility looks like (I have a T520 and an X220 Tablet, both Lenovo laptops):
