Tutorial for OOBE?

If you like, you can perform a clean install as usual using the tutorial below. When you get to step 15 as OOBE starts, you can just turn off the laptop for your son to continue when he turns it on next.

Let the PC restart as many times as installation requires until you get to this screen:



It indicates the end of installation and start of OOBE, Windows Welcome. Now turn PC off, next time it is started it continues from this point letting end user to set up region, keyboard, initial user account, privacy settings, OneDrive and so on.

   Tip

Instead of powering PC off from power button (so called hard reset), it's better to shut down Windows. To do this press SHIFT + F10 when you arrive to OOBE region selection screen as shown in my previous post.

This opens Command Prompt. Now type C:\Windows\System32\shutdown -s -t 0 -f and press Enter to shut down Windows. Shutting down is more friendly than hard reset which can on rare occasions cause issues.

It should be a number zero.

Shutdown command parameters explained:

• -s > shuts down, -r restarts, -l (letter L) signs current user out (PC / Windows remains powered on)
• -t X > command will be executed in X seconds
• -f > all possibly open programs will be forced to close before shutdown command will be executed

Examples:

• Shutdown immediately > shutdown -s -t 0
• Restart in one hour forcing programs to close > shutdown -r -t 3600 -f
• Sign out / log off current user in 15 minutes > shutdown -l -t 900
