Another External HDD formatted over with Windows 10 media creator

Hello all. Glad to be here. I know this or similar threads might have happened to another already or several but basically I was super tired and tried to save the windows 10 setup media creator onto my 500GB external HDD. And yes I realize now there was a warning but it was 3am and I was super tired and missed it. So now there is 32Gb FAT partition and the rest basically is unallocated space. I cannot really afford a pay program but all my music and pictures and such were on there. I did read some say to recover the partition and other say data recovery, but not sure which one was best. I cannot afford a specialist either so can anyone point me in right direction? And if there was a previous thread regarding this same problem I am sorry I'm new here. Theres so many recovery programs and alot want money for full version and or only allow tiny amount of info to be recovered. I am willing to try some or alot of them if I can get back some of the files. Thanks guys in advance.

Recovering partition is unlikely as you have over written old data with new data. Try using recuva which will recover as many files as it can but will take a long time. You need a second drive to write to, as recovery to same drive will over write stuff you are trying to recover.

I actually did try recuva and a few others. Managed to get some pictures thats it. I can see the FAT32 30gb partition on my external hdd and then theres 400+gb of unallocated space. I thought someone had mentioned recovering partition perhaps and then do data recovery but alot of those recovery software only let you recover 1gb or wont fix what they found unless you pay. I realize totally my own mistake and stupidity lol
